It’s worth giving another chance to ARTISTE D’AINAY, who showed promise behind the subsequent Ballymore winner Impaire Et Passe on his penultimate start. That form is impressive in this context. Unexposed Quaresome (second choice) and in-form Garde Des Champs look the main threats.
Preference is for LONE STAR, who has progressed well since teaming up with Joe Williamson and won eased-down in a C&D contest most recently. Maimie’s Magic, another mare who looks open to further improvement, is second choice ahead of her stablemate Poppy Rose whose form has substance.
Having got in lightly judged on his best Flat form, RING OF BEARA may well prove the answer to this competitive 4yo handicap. Pretending (second choice) and Cianciana are solid-looking contenders who should go well, while The Churchill Lad and Bringbackmemories are other suggestions for the shortlist.
Many of these have already had a few goes against each other over staying trips and perhaps CROSSING THEBAR can prove the new kid on the block and confirm the good impression he made at Plumpton where his Flat-race speed was in evidence. Lock Down Luke’s C&D form in January puts him high on the list and he can be the main danger, ahead of You Some Boy, back to form at Ayr last time out, and Faithfulflyer.
Having made great strides and impressed in her races since switched to handicap level, IVETWIGGEDIT (nap) could well extend her winning sequence. Russian Virtue, another contender who looks open to further progress, is feared most ahead of the interesting Scots Poet and last year’s winner The Navigator.
Irish point winner Lights Are Green could improve a good deal now handicapping but he faces two rivals in cracking form. Preference for SHIR I DONT KNOW is only slight but he is bred to be suited by this trip and had plenty in hand when winning on his handicap debut. White Rhino continued his red-hot streak at Southwell on Monday but the selection is likely to provide stiffer opposition today and this is a quick return, on top of a long journey to get here.
As regards the runners who already have bumper form, OF COURSE YOU CAN is first choice ahead of Touch Of A Dragon then Scarlet O’Tara. Those three contenders are all open to progress but may not have this race totally to themselves, as El Elefante, On Cloud Nine, Nellie Bluesky and Bishop Hill are interesting types among the remainder. Any positive market moves should be heeded.
