Cheltenham is over but ITV Racing is back Saturday starting with this handicap chase over 2m2f. ANY NEWS is on a very good mark at the moment and might be able to take advantage here for Sam Twiston-Davies and Neil Mulholland. Once rated 143, my hope travelled really well when third at this track back in February and while this is not easy he should run a big one.
ITV are also at Uttoxeter Saturday for this handicap hurdle over 2m4f. I’ll give OPTIMISE PRIME another chance after a poor effort when fancied at Kempton last time. A mistake at the 5th seemed to stop him that day. Prior to that the Ben Pauling runner had been in good shape scoring at Lingfield and conditions here look ideal. Hard to predict but a chance on a going day.
A handicap hurdle over 2m5f. YORKSEA looked as though he was gagging for a step up in trip when fourth behind Aucunrisque in a competitive heat at Newbury last time. Whether he needs this far only time will tell, but he goes off the same mark and I’ll take the chance for trainer Gary Moore and Niall Houlihan, who takes off a precious 3lb.
A handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. Quite a few of these out of form but capable at their best. The lightly raced TRELAWNE is the one that interests me. He will be a lovely chaser one day but showed some real talent when scoring at Ffos Las last time. He’s up 6lb for that and a mark of 130 is by no means lenient. But that said the Kim Bailey runner, ridden by David Bass, is open to any type of improvement and a few of these might have had their best days.
Another handicap chase here over an extended 2m4f. A real chance for MISTER FISHER to bounce back to form for Nico de Boinville and Nicky Henderson. The nine-year-old can go here off a rating of 146 having once been as high as 162. The drying ground will be right up his street and he loves this course. Although pulled up last time an effort previously at Huntingdon was not totally devoid of promise.
This big betting race of the day in the Midlands Grand National over 4m2f. THE TWO AMIGOS is a big price here and looks to have an eachway chance for David Pritchard, who takes off a valuable 5lb, and Nicky Martin. A racing weight of just 10st looks awesome and the old boy was in terrific form when last seen at Chepstow beating The Big Breakaway in the Welsh National. Any rain will be a major plus. At the age of 11 it’s asking a lot but I’m going to be having a few quid eachway.
Finally a novices’ handicap chase over 3m. Competitive stuff. AUTONOMOUS CLOUD can’t be well handicapped as he has been second on his last four starts, but I suspect he’ll be hard to keep out the frame for Adrian Heskin and Fergal O’Brien. My hope stays well and has course form.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
