DAY 2 IS DONE, AND HERE’S THE FANCIES FOR THURSDAY:

13:30 – Impaire Et Passe

Irish trained horses have won 8 of the last 9 renewals of this race and I’m hopeful that positive trend can continue courtesy of IMPAIRE ET PASSE. He doesn’t have Grade 1 form but the manner of his victories suggest that he is a top class in waiting and I think he’ll announce himself as such in this race.

14:10 – The Real Whacker

I don’t think this year’s Brown Advisory Novice Chase is a vintage renewal and while I expect Gerri Colombe to be very difficult to beat, I fancy THE REAL WHACKER to go very close. He has track experience, stays extremely well and beat a decent horse when he won the Dipper. He was left in the Gold Cup at the latest stage but the decision to stay in novice company I believe to be the correct call. He’s a major player.

14:50 – Run For Oscar & Langer Dan

A typically intimidating mind puzzle so I’m looking to the tried and trusted. Charles Byrnes is the handicap king and having been present at Newmarket last October to see RUN FOR OSCAR win the Cesarewich on the bridle,

I think his current mark of 147 makes him a big danger in this handicap hurdle. Another horse I’m keen on each-way in the same race is the Dan Skelton trained LANGER DAN who has a fantastic record at the Cheltenham Festival. He’s always dangerous and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came home strong to pick some pockets.

15:30 – Edwardstone

This year’s Champion Chase has attracted a small field but the numbers don’t really matter as I read it as somewhat of a match race. Arkle winners have a strong record in this race, seven of the last 12 have won.

That stat combined with his performances this season give me confidence that EDWARDSTONE can prevail over Energumene. This will be a fascinating tactical affair of which I expect Tom Cannon to come out on top.

16:10 – Delta Work

A huge field of 19 declared for the cross country will make for good viewing! Gordon Elliott has transformed this race, running horses that genuinely wouldn’t be out of place lining up at 3:30pm on Friday. Ground will play a major factor here as Galvin would prefer dry conditions whereas his stablemate and last year’s Grinch DELTA WORK will love softer conditions.

The booking of Keith Donoghue is another asset in this discipline and I’m hopeful of him backing up his performance from last year to make it back to back festival wins.

16:50 – Final Orders

It’s not often a horse who has won his last 7 chases is potentially still well handicapped but that may well be the case with FINAL ORDERS. Such has been his progression, he has risen 30lbs for Gavin Cromwell and comes into this race with what looks like ideal conditions.

17:30 – Fun Fun Fun

23 of 30 running’s of the Cheltenham Champion Bumper has been won by the Irish, 12 of those by a certain Willie Mullins who saddles no less than 10 in this renewal! This season’s bumper crop seems to lack a real “wow” horse which sets this race up to be an open affair.

I have been extremely impressed with the filly FUN FUN FUN, from her performances at Sligo in October to the DRF last month. The market is often driven by jockey bookings but lest we forget that the many of Mullins’ champion bumper winners are not necessarily first string.
