It’s finally time! The 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets going with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – and it looks set to be a humdinger of a race.

Facile Vega, the brilliant winner of last year’s Champion Bumper, bids to bounce back from a flop at last month’s Dublin Racing Festival and he reopposes stablemate Il Etait Temps.
The field of 14 also includes Royal Bond scorer Marine Nationale and former Epsom Derby antepost favourite High Definition, while the home charge is led by Tolworth hero Tahmuras.

Matt Chapman: I’ve always been a Facile Vega fan and nothing has changed. I could see him winning the on the bridle. That said for this blog the best has to be TAHMURAS each-way for champion trainer Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. The Tolworth winner stays well and his Sandown form has a solid enough look to it. Is he good enough? Only time will tell. But at double digit odds I’ll take the chance.
Mick Fitzgerald: Willie Mullins has a strong hand in this contest and IL ETAIT TEMPS could be the answer. He is a bit of a handful, but no doubt is talented on the gallops. They are going to go fast in this race and that will help him relax. He could be the answer in a tricky opening contest.
Jane Mangan: Can a horse who won two Champion Bumpers and a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Christmas suddenly become a bad horse with one disappointing run? We know FACILE VEGA is a monster and we know he went too fast early at the Dublin Racing Festival. Expect a change in tactics, perhaps reverting to those patient plans deployed by Patrick Mullins in his bumpers. If he relaxes, he wins. An each way bet? INTHEPOCKET has solid claims for Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead.
Ruby Walsh: I’m with FACILE VEGA and, despite his bad run at the Dublin Racing Festival, I can’t turn my back on him.
