13:15 – Spirit D’Aunou
Spirit D’Aunou offered something to work with when runner-up on debut at Kempton in November and he confirmed that promise by getting off the mark at Huntingdon on his next outing, overcoming his inexperience to land cramped odds. Spirit D’Aunou justified odds-on favouritism in more impressive style at Ludlow last time, putting in a more polished display to defy a penalty, and he looks likely to carry on improving. He can make a successful handicap debut.
13:50 – Cuthbert Dibble
Cuthbert Dibble looked in need of a stiffer test when placed on his first couple of starts over hurdles at around two miles at Leicester, and he duly relished the step up in trip to two and a half miles at that venue last time, getting off the mark in style. Cuthbert Dibble led on the bridle approaching two out and drew clear before the last, ultimately passing the post 19 lengths clear in a good time. He has shown his effectiveness on testing ground and now steps into handicap on a lenient-looking mark.
14:25 – Playful Saint
Playful Saint shaped as if in need of the run on his return at Chepstow in October and he duly stepped up on that when runner-up to Love Envoi over this course and distance in December, impressing with how he moved through the race. He then progressed again to register a dominant victory at Leicester in December, further demonstrating his effectiveness on testing ground. He has relatively few miles on the clock and could still have more to offer for Dan Skelton.
15:00 – Goodtimecrew
Goodtimecrew, a £135,000 purchase after finishing runner-up on her only start in points, made a successful debut under Rules in a bumper at Wincanton last month and created a good impression in doing so. Goodtimecrew, who is out of a half-sister to the high-class hurdler Wicklow Brave, looked pretty raw on debut and still had plenty to do early in the straight, but she made rapid headway over two furlongs out and stayed on well to lead close home in the style of a promising mare. She ought to benefit from that experience and can take the step up to Listed company in her stride.
15:35 – Easy As That
Easy As That jumped sketchily when beaten in a match at Ffos Las on his chasing debut, but he put in a more assured round at Haydock on his second start over fences and he registered an emphatic victory, seemingly relishing the longer trip. Easy As That followed up in good style at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, putting in another good round of jumping and looking a potentially smart chaser. He’s going the right way over fences and a 9 lb rise in the weights should not stop him from launching a bold bid to complete the hat-trick.
16:10 – Flowing Cadenza
Flowing Cadenza shaped with encouragement when runner-up on her first outing for Venetia Williams (previously with Bob Buckler) at Chepstow in November and she duly took a step forward to score at Hereford the following month, comprehensively reversing form with the mare who had beaten her the time before. Flowing Cadenza backed that up with an emphatic success at Ffos Las in January and, while this is more competitive, she is clearly thriving for this stable and remains open to further improvement.
16:45 – Iconic Muddle
Iconic Muddle has been lightly raced in recent seasons but he offered encouragement on his return from a lengthy layoff at Kempton a couple of weeks ago, staying on well into second from an unpromising position. He’s only 2 lb higher here and of interest on the back of that promising comeback effort.
