Matt Chapman’s Horse Racing Tips

1:30 Wolverhampton – EXALTED ANGEL
1:50 Sandown – CRAMBO
2:05 Wolverhampton – UNFORGOTTEN
2:25 Sandown – MONVIEL [Each-Way] 
2:40 Wolverhampton – TINKER TOY
3:00 Sandown – DONTYAWANTME
3:35 Sandown – EASY AS THAT

1:30 Wolverhampton – EXALTED ANGEL

Weather issues threaten all the cards Saturday but ITV hopefully gets under way here with a handicap on the Flat over 6f. This is wide open. Silky Wilkie finally got a win on the board last time but is far from bombproof. The draw is a bit wide for EXALTED ANGEL but he’s down to a mark of 99 now and must surely pop up at some point in the near future. The Karl Burke-trained runner goes well at this track and will like returning to 6f from 5f. A few quid eachway under Clifford Lee.

1:50 Sandown – CRAMBO

ITV’s main fixture Saturday is hopefully – there’s an 8am inspection – at Sandown starting with this novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m4f. Stamina will be essential and the one I think who will relish the trip is CRAMBO for Connor Brace and Fergal O’Brien. Other than a pulled up run in Grade 1 company, my hope has done very little wrong in his career and he powered away from his field when scoring at Ascot over nearly this trip in November. Looks useful.

2:05 Wolverhampton – UNFORGOTTEN

The Lincoln Trial Handicap over an extended 1m. Another tough heat. UNFORGOTTEN is a big raw beast but I’m surprised he’s not a clear favourite. There’s loads of improvement to come for the John and Thady Gosden-trained five-year-old and I liked him when I was at Lingfield working for his win last time. He’ll get a bit further in time but a strongly run race here should be ideal and James Doyle is a huge booking.

2:25 Sandown – MONVIEL[Each-Way] 

The big betting race of the day in the Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle over 2m. This is hard! MONVIEL  never got involved at Newbury last time when he was my selection for a similar type of contest. However, he stayed on really well from off the pace to eventually finish fifth. This ground will be much more up his street  and he got dropped 1lb which is not a bad thing. Philip Hobbs trains and Ben Jones takes the mount for a stable hoping for big things from Thyme Hill at Cheltenham next week. I’ll be backing Monviel each-way.

2:40 Wolverhampton – TINKER TOY

A Listed race in the Lady Wulfruna over 7f. Angel Blue might find this a bit sharp and so the selection is defending champion TINKER TOY for Roger Varian and Jack Mitchell. My hope disappointed after landing this race last year but faced some stiff tasks and has everything in his favour to run a big one here. Have a few quid on eachway but bet late to make sure all eight go to post!

3:00 Sandown – DONTYAWANTME

A Listed bumper over 2m. Always a bit of a guessing game. DONTYAWANTME has gone well with juice in the ground before and looks a fairly decent type for Fergal O’Brien and Paddy Brennan. The daughter of Getaway scored in battling fashion at Huntingdon last time and hopefully will give us a big run at decent odds.

3:35 Sandown – EASY AS THAT

Now a novices’ handicap chase over 2m4f. Very easy to side with EASY AS THAT for Charlie Deutsch and Venetia Williams. The ground should be ideal for an improving horse who has won recently at Ffos Las and Newcastle. This looks another good opportunity even up 9lb for the last victory.

 So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
