Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s top tips for Lingfield on Wednesday

14:00 – Third Batch

THIRD BATCH was disappointing when only fourth of five on her handicap debut at Kempton last month but it’s perhaps best to overlook that effort in a race run at a muddling gallop. Third Batch had earlier shown some promise in maidens, most notably when runner-up over a mile here in January. The way she stuck to her task on that occasion suggests she’s worth a go at a mile and a quarter, and a BHA mark of 67 looks fair.

14:30 – Sense of Worth

SENSE OF WORTH is on a losing run of 13 that stretches back to April 2021 but he has run well on both starts since joining Lee Carroll and wasn’t far off his very best when beaten a neck in second in a mile handicap at Kempton last week. Sense of Worth is able to run off the same mark here and remains well treated on his old form, while the step back up to a mile and a quarter won’t be an issue as he has plenty of form at the trip.

15:00 – Bascinet

BASCINET has been in excellent order on the all-weather over the winter and has won three of his five starts since the turn of the year. He produced his best effort yet on Timeform’s figures when scoring under this rider at Wolverhampton on Saturday, going with plenty of enthusiasm and looking in control from a long way out, and a 5 lb penalty should not stop him if he’s in similar form. 

15:30 – Idee Fixee

IDEE FIXEE finished runner-up in all three starts in maiden/novice company and also found only one too strong when runner-up on his handicap debut at Chelmsford in December. Idee Fixee was perhaps sent for home a bit too early in a race run at a sound gallop, while he also looked a bit green in front, so he is entitled to progress. That form sets the standard in any case, and Idee Fixee looks the one to beat.

16:00 – Defence Treaty

DEFENCE TREATY shaped with promise when runner-up in a mile handicap at Southwell last month on his first start for Nigel Twiston-Davies and he stepped forward on that when registering an emphatic victory in an 11-furlong handicap at the same venue last week. Defence Treaty impressed with how he travelled last time, looking well suited by the longer trip, and he had plenty in hand as he crossed the line with a three-and-a-quarter-length advantage. He remains unexposed over middle distances and holds strong claims under a 4 lb penalty.

16:30 – Galileo Glass

GALILEO GLASS is on a losing run of 13 that stretches back to September 2021 but he ran his best race for a while when runner-up at Southwell last week, looking more straightforward than has sometimes been the case. He had to wait for a gap over a furlong out but kept on well close home and was only beaten by three-quarters of a length, so he should launch a bold bid off the same mark.

17:00 – Inaam

INAAM was below his best when fifth in a six-furlong apprentice handicap at Wolverhampton last time but things didn’t work out ideally for him on that occasion as he was held up off a steady pace and made headway out wide on the home turn. He is perhaps better judged on the form he showed when successful over this course and distance on his penultimate start, when he won with a bit to spare under little more than a hands-and-heels ride. He is only 3 lb higher in the weights than when registering that cosy three-quarter length success.
