YOUNG BUSTER shaped with some encouragement when sixth at Aintree in October, edging ahead briefly in the straight before fading as if the run was needed on his first outing for 19 months. That was his first start for Fergal O’Brien – he had previously been with Shark Hanlon – and he is entitled to improve for that experience. This looks like a much weaker race than the one he contested at Aintree.
Point winner MAID OF THE NIGHT failed to make an impact in three novice hurdles but she showed improved form to justify strong support on her handicap debut at Hereford last month, proving well suited by the longer trip. Maid of The Night, who scored over a trip just shy of two and three-quarter miles at Hereford, will be suited by this further step up in trip, and a 6 lb rise in the weights should not be enough to stop this unexposed mare following up.
LAZY SUNDAY justified support when fending off an unexposed chasing debutant to get off the mark at Exeter on her penultimate start, and she then defied a 5 lb higher mark when following up at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago. Lazy Sunday could do with brushing up on her jumping as she jumped repeatedly out to her right, but she was still an authoritative winner last time and has more to offer over fences. A 7 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to stop her completing the hat-trick.
BEYOND REDEMPTION showed improved form to make a winning start for Harry Derham at Wincanton in January, winning with plenty in hand after jumping well in the main and travelling strongly. Beyond Redemption, who had previously been trained in Ireland by Peter John Flood, was left with little to beat in a race lacking substance, but the style of the seven-length success was still impressive and he could have more to offer for this yard. An 11 lb rise in the weights demands more but Beyond Redemption could be up to the task.
MOORLAND RAMBLER stepped up on what he had shown on his handicap debut when finishing third over an extended two miles at Exeter in November, and he raised his game again to get off the mark over that course and distance in January. Moorland Rambler was suited by the testing ground placing the emphasis on stamina on that occasion, and he gives the impression that he’ll be suited by this longer trip. He is going the right way and could still have a bit more to offer.
WALK IN THE STORM shaped with encouragement when fourth in a mares’ novice hurdle at Uttoxeter last time, making headway from three out. She’s a bumper winner and hails from a good jumping family so it would be no surprise were she to improve now tackling handicap company and upped in trip. She’s also refitted with the tongue-tie she wore when winning her bumper.
SOUTHOFTHEBORDER was bought for £145,000 after winning his only start in an Irish point so he makes obvious appeal on his bumper debut for Nicky Henderson. The danger is Big Fish as he made an encouraging start to his career when runner-up at Exeter in November.
