There are several potential improvers on show but CANT BEAT HISTORY showed more than previously over hurdles when well backed on his handicap debut at Doncaster last week and will be a big player if building on that. He was ridden more prominently on that occasion and he only just failed to reel in the all-the-way winner. Connections have turned him out quickly so he can race from the same mark (due to go up 3 lb) and he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Mammies Boy rates a likely improver now handicapping up in trip, while Broomfields Cave shaped well from a poor position over course and distance recently and is another to take seriously.
14:15 – Final Encore
FINAL ENCORE managed to do what his smart half-brother Third Wind (for the same connections) failed to achieve when winning a bumper in the spring and with this trip sure to suit now hurdling, he’s just about the most persuasive option. Matterhorn shaped better than the bare result on his British debut for new connections at Sandown in November on his first run for 19 months and that absence on heavy ground seemingly found him out. He is a grand type physically, though, and may prove a big danger if returning to his French form.

LADY KK was a fair winner over hurdles and needs to dispel a lesser effort in that sphere last time, but her two runner-up efforts over fences at Exeter earlier this season read well in the context of this race, and she may be worth chancing to return to form now back chasing now fitted with first-time cheekpieces, which may sharpen her up. Shirocco’s Dream, who impressed with her jumping when successful at Huntingdon recently, can also play a big role.

15:25 – Trevada
TREVADA showed fairy useful form when winning a bumper for Nigel Twiston-Davies and he has improved his form over hurdles for this yard since entering handicaps. He finished runner-up to a progressive sort in testing conditions at Exeter in December and he ran to a similar level at Doncaster last time when shaping as if in need of a stiffer test. Trevada is expected to be seen in a much better light now moving up to three miles and he is worth keeping the faith with. Mullinaree also goes up in trip and is a big threat, with Fancy Your Chances dangerous if casting aside a lesser effort when last seen in January.
16:00 – Wick Green
WICK GREEN had fallen to a career-low mark and proved better than ever when making a winning start for Ben Pauling at Ffos Las last month. He was ridden prominently on that occasion, jumping into the lead at the sixth and remaining up with the pace when headed again and proving much too strong for his rivals in the latter stages. The handicapper has raised him 5 lb for that success, which leaves him well treated on the pick of his form, and he remains a horse to keep on the right side. Camulus, an ex-pointer who shaped with encouragement on his recent chasing debut, may prove the biggest danger.

An easy winner of her sole start in points, ANNIE K makes plenty of appeal starting out for a leading yard who can boast an envious strike rate in this sphere, and this expensive recruit could be the way to go on her Rules debut. Act of Authority shaped well when runner-up in a Musselburgh bumper and is highly respected, too, while Secret Squirrel and Tune In A Box are a couple of newcomers to note.
