Timeform’s best bets at Ayr:

13:45 – Bellaney Lord
14:15 – Richmond Lake
14:45 – Densworth
15:15 – Bobby Bow
15:50 – So Many Roads
16:25 – Jessiemac
17:00 – I Am No Risk

13:45 – Bellaney Lord

BELLANEY LORD ran to just a modest level on his hurdling debut at Perth in May last year but showed much more on his return from nine months off at Downpatrick last month. He would have almost certainly placed on that occasion but for unseating his rider in unfortunate circumstances, stumbling on landing after jumping the second-last. This doesn’t look a strong race and he sets a good standard on form. Saladam and Hold Up La Colmine have both been expensive to follow so far but the pair should be on the premises again.

14:15 – Richmond Lake

This looks an intriguing clash between a couple of promising novices in RICHMOND LAKE and Bass Rock and marginal preference is for the former. He was useful over hurdles and, though he failed to meet expectations on his chasing debut, he took a big step forward when opening his account in style at Wetherby last month. The third has boosted that form since and Richmond Lake looks a good prospect, so is taken to defy a 6 lb rise at the expense of Bass Rock, who shaped very well when narrowly failing to land the odds last time.

14:45 – Densworth

This looks an open novice hurdle with five previous winners set to clash and it is DENSWORTH who is narrowly preferred. He showed improved form to get off the mark at the third time of asking at Newcastle last month, appearing to relish the drop down to two miles. He travelled powerfully throughout and, while he will need to progress again, he represents a yard having a good season and he looks promising. Benassi who also opened his account in good style at Uttoxeter last time is the most likely danger.

15:15 – Bobby Bow

BOBBY BOW made a most encouraging start over fences when runner-up at Ffos Las where he pulled well clear of the rest, an effort that was all the more meritorious considering that he was returning from a 21-month absence. If able to build on that here, he will prove a tough nut to crack despite a 4 lb higher mark. Veterans Ardera Cross and Wee Small Hours were both successful last time and need considering but the lightly-raced Gold Emery is feared most.

15:50 – So Many Roads

SO MANY ROADS had seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind and he duly landed a gamble on his handicap debut over course and distance at the beginning of January. He showed much improved form, proving his opening mark a lenient one and he also displayed a very good attitude, staying on strong under pressure to be readily on top at the line. This is a stronger race but a subsequent 5 lb rise is fair enough and he can make his presence felt once more. Coral Blue comes here at the top of his game and in next on the list despite taking a 6 lb rise for his Musselburgh success.

16:25 – Jessiemac

The vote goes to JESSIEMAC, who once again proved that she goes well round here when runner-up over course and distance last time, pulling clear of the remainder with one who was bouncing back to form, and Ian Duncan’s charge seems sure to launch another bold bid despite a rise in the weights. Joanna I’m Fine put in a decent shift at this course recently and won’t mind going back up in trip, so she is second choice ahead of Atomic Angel.

17:00 – I Am No Risk

The standard set by those with experience is solid rather than spectacular so newcomers I AM NO RISK and Giacosa could be up to the job representing successful yards. Marginal preference is with the former, who cost £85,000 as a three-year-old and has a nice pedigree, while he also represents a yard that has a good record in this sphere.
