14:00 – Effernock Fizz

Irish raider EFFERNOCK FIZZ has been found a fantastic opportunity to get off the mark over fences. After digging deep to win the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las in October Effernock Fizz was beaten only three-quarters of a length in a handicap chase at Cheltenham a couple of weeks later. She ran to a similar, useful level when runner-up in a mares’ novices’ handicap chase at Bangor 12 days ago and should prove far too good for her two opponents.

14:35 – Welsch Charger

WELSCH CHARGER just hinted at promise in a couple of starts in bumpers but he showed much more on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon last month, finishing runner-up to a long odds-on favourite. Welsh Charger made a fast-forward move into contention and did well to sustain his effort, pulling nine lengths clear of the third. That was an encouraging start over hurdles and he is entitled to improve for the experience.

15:10 – Patient Dream

PATIENT DREAM had disappointed on his first couple of starts after joining Donald McCain but, fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, he took advantage of a reduced mark to score at Market Rasen a couple of weeks ago. Patient Dream jumped well in the main, travelled with enthusiasm at the head of affairs and quickened clear on the approach to the last, ultimately scoring by five lengths. The headgear is unsurprisingly retained and a 6 lb rise in the weights should not stop him from following up.

15:45 – Seigneur des As

SEIGNEUR DES AS is still a maiden but, following a breathing operation, went close to getting off the mark at Lingfield last week, only going down by a nose despite racing from 6 lb out of the handicap. Seigneur des As is 3lb out of the weights here but is effectively 3lb better off than last time and he will have the assistance of Gina Andrews in the saddle in this amateur riders’ contest. He is only a five-year-old and it’s still relatively early days for him with Milton Harris, so there could be a bit more to come.

16:20 – Oak Creek

OAK CREEK was placed on both completed starts in Irish points and he shaped with promise when fourth in a two-and-a-half-mile maiden hurdle at Doncaster last month on his debut under Rules. Oak Creek is entitled to be sharper with that Doncaster effort under his belt, while the way he kept on from the second-last suggests he’ll benefit from this step up in trip.

16:52 – Gabriels Getaway

GABRIELS GETAWAY failed to make an impact in three maiden/novice hurdles but he showed much improved form when sent chasing in handicap company at Taunton a couple of weeks ago. Gabriel’s Getaway impressed with how he moved through the race, making headway on the bridle turning in before cruising clear from two out. He defied an 11 lb higher mark at Lingfield on Monday, winning with more in hand than the margin of a length and three-quarters would suggest, and a 7 lb penalty should not stop him from completing the hat-trick.

17:22 – Riskintheground

RISKINTHEGROUND has made an underwhelming start over hurdles but he’s in excellent hands with Dan Skelton and there could be more to come now he goes handicapping. Riskintheground made a good start to his career when runner-up in a Chepstow bumper last season and he also ran well when fifth in a listed bumper at Ascot on his next outing, doing some good late work. The level he showed in bumpers suggests his opening mark could prove lenient.
