Foinix won well at Chelmsford 11 days ago and he could have more to offer now his stamina is being more fully tested. KRONA looked a long way ahead of her opening mark when routing her rivals at Kempton last week though and can make light of her penalty.
The return to Southwell, where she boasts an unbeaten record, could see Comedian Leader get back on the up but there are interesting opponents. Aclaimed Art, No Barrier and Burnish (second choice) all bring potential but NO SAINT could be the answer. He burned a few fingers in sprint races at the start of his career but he looked a different proposition upped to 7f last month and 1m should suit even better now he switches to handicaps.
Big Narstie is sure to be popular on the back of a recent course win and there’s no doubt he has the talent to make light of his small rise in the weights. It did take all of Luke Morris’s powers of persuasion to coax him home there though and this race might take more winning. The unexposed pair Southwold and Rumnotred are respected but there could be some pace on here and that will play to the strengths of End Zone (second choice) and MASQOOL (nap). The latter is preferred back at a track he is well suited by.
Trojan Legend (second choice) couldn’t live up to his market billing at Kempton last month but he now drops in trip and has headgear fitted. He remains capable of better, while Greavsie has the ability to figure if on a good day and Coloane looks a likely improver now making her handicap debut at a modest level. SEAGRAVE FOX had been on the up prior to his breakthrough win at Wolverhampton two weeks ago and he may be able to deal with his rise in the weights.
Amy Santiago’s debut promise shouldn’t be overlooked on the back of her disappointing reappearance and she may strip fitter this time. Rubellite is an interesting newcomer, while Medici Chapel should give her running under these suitable conditions, but ELVENIA may prove a cut above her rivals. Although her absence since Royal Ascot is something of a concern, the form she showed when a running-on seventh in the Albany Stakes sets a useful standard and she is already proven on Tapeta. She can defy her penalty.
Mr Gloverman and Thornaby Beauty are interesting handicap newcomers but the pair to appeal most are Rossmore Nation and URBAN DANDY. The former looks the type to benefit from this drop to sprinting and he shaped quite nicely in Ireland seven weeks ago but the selection fairly bolted up over C&D 19 days ago (when well backed) and may well be able to defy a 6lb rise. Goose Rock, Mintana and She’s A Rocket also have something to recommend them.
The class-dropping Dark Side Prince looks set to go well once again, while Rose Bandit, Mehmo and Brandy Station can all have their case argued. Man On A Mission and WEE FAT MAC come here at the top of their game, though, and the latter can win by confirming recent C&D placings with his old adversary.
Each of the eight runners can have a case argued for them in this trappy event. September Power, Thefastnthecurious and Master Grey (second choice) can call upon recent winning course form, while Tigerten needs a close market check on his first outing for this shrewd yard. SOCIAL CITY looked on the way back over C&D last month, though, tiring late on having tried to serve it up to a well-handicapped winner in the straight. He can take advantage of a drop in the weights.
