ITV Saturday gets under way here with the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Chase over 3m. Bold Endeavour stands out on ratings and might simply outclass this small field. However, there is a stamina question mark at this trip, even though he won a point-to-point over 3m, and I’ll risk the unstoppable KINONDO KWETU who just keeps on winning for Sam England. Johathan England is on top and the Aintree winner back in October stays very well, goes on the ground and wants to go right-handed.
ITV also go to Haydock Saturday for this Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle over an extended 3m. Some odd horses in this for a Rendlesham. Albert Bartlett 5th GREEN BROOK was back to form when winning at Sandown last time and it’s interesting Charlie Deutsch is here for Venetia Williams rather than at Ascot. Hopefully he will be good enough.
This is a handicap chase over 3m. Phoenix Way has done this column as favour at this track before and Cap du Nord ran well for the column last time out. I can’t help but have a few quid each way here on REVELS HILL for Harry Fry and Jonathan Burke. My hope was far from disgraced at Sandown last time when hampered by a faller before staying on well in the closing stages. He stays on the same mark and should have a place chance at least.
A staying test here in a Grand National Trial over an extended 3m4f. The ground is not as testing as Welsh National hero THE TWO AMIGOS would like but there is some ease and showers are forecast. Nicky Martin’s stable star kept on really well at Chepstow and while up 5lb still has each way claims.
Now a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m3f. This is wide open. Not many of these are strong stayers. I’ll give PETIT TONNERRE a chance eachway for the Jonjo O’Neill team. The selection had no chance in the Lanzarote when badly hampered by a faller at the second and after a mistake at the 5th was pulled up. Obviously he’s better than that and he had previously had good placed efforts at Newbury and Aintree.
One from Wincanton on ITV in the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle over 1m7f. Not much between the big three here and tactics key. I suspect I LIKE TO MOVE IT will go straight to the front for Sam Twiston-Davies and he might just stay there for old man Nigel. The Greatwood winner has plenty of class although he flopped behind Marie’s Rock at Cheltenham when last seen.
The feature race of the day in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase over 2m5f. A very hard race to bet in as it all depends if the real Shishkin turns up. If he does he will lap them. Te safest bet is FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES for JJ Slevin and Joseph O’Brien. My hope struggles against the very best Grade 1 horses, but he’s plenty of ability and was a fine scorer here last season and at Aintree. I suspect he will win unless Shishkin is back to his best. The latter should stay for all I believe he wants a fast 2m.
