Since Day One enjoyed a productive campaign over hurdles last season, winning on four occasions, and he has taken well to chasing this term, landing novice handicaps at Ayr and Newcastle. He wasn’t disgraced when third – albeit beaten 14 lengths – in a Grade 2 at Doncaster last month and this novice looks like a more suitable opportunity, for all he has to concede weight to both rivals. Since Day One holds the strongest claims on form and while he has only raced at trips around two miles under Rules, he was placed in Irish points over three miles.
14:10 – Technology
Technology showed something to work with in bumpers – he was placed at Wincanton on his second outing – and he offered encouragement when fifth on his hurdling debut at Chepstow last month. Technology, who has a good jumps pedigree being by Yeats and out of a half-sister to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth, held every chance at the second-last but was untidy and then ran green. He was gradually left behind and ultimately beaten around 23 lengths but he should improve for the experience and is worth siding with here.
14:40 – Elogio
Elogio is a half-brother to a couple of winners on the Flat and he put his relative speed to good use on his debut in a junior bumper at Aintree in November, routing his rivals by ten lengths. Elogio, who was purchased for £80,000 following that victory and sent to Tom Lacey from Richard Bandey, had to settle for second on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon a couple of weeks ago, though he deserves credit for getting involved at all after being bumped and nearly unseating his rider at the first flight. He can leave that form behind and is worth another chance for his in-form stable.
15:15 – Impulsive One
Impulsive One showed the benefit of a second breathing operation when comfortably landing a good-quality handicap at Huntingdon in November and he has run respectably to hit the frame on both outings since. The handicapper has relented slightly so he is now just 2 lb above his last winning mark, and he looks worth a shot over this intermediate trip.

15:50 – Sao
Sao is on a losing run comprising ten starts that stretches back to January 2021 but he has been given a chance by the handicapper and is now 10 lb below his last winning mark. That victory was achieved over course and distance and it would be little surprise to see him bounce back following a break.
16:20 – East Street
East Street, a progressive sort over hurdles last season, is getting the hang of things over fences and went close over this course and distance last month, going down by a neck after trading at a short price in running. East Street didn’t appear to do much wrong – he was simply unable to cope with the winner’s late surge – and he pulled ten lengths clear of the third. He’s going the right way and a 5 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to stop him getting off the mark in this sphere.
16:50 – White Rhino
White Rhino offered little in maiden and novice company but, upped in trip, he produced an improved performance to get off the mark in impressive fashion on his handicap debut at Southwell last week. White Rhino made smooth headway to lead between the final two flights and he soon pulled clear, passing the post six lengths to the good. A 7 lb penalty should not be enough to stop this unexposed sort from following up.
