The Cheltenham Festival 2023 is edging ever closer and, with the off slowly looming in to view, we’ve got jump jockey icon turned tactical guru Ruby Walsh and top pundit Rory Delargy with us every week to hopefully get you more bang for your buck.
The Triumph Hurdle is the first race on Day 4 of this year’s Cheltenham Festival, and the lads have been looking at the markets to hopefully find you a winner as we pass the half-way mark.
Stablemate Lossiemouth and Blood Destiny are very close in the betting at the time of writing but in a large field anything could happen.
It didn’t go to plan for Lossiemouth in the Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown and if you’re going to be a short-priced favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, you should be able to win a race when it isn’t going your way.
It didn’t look like she was making too much ground on Gala Marceau, who deserves some credit. She had a few solid runs in France before going to Willie Mullins and she also ran well on St Stephen’s Day when second to Lossiemouth. There could be a question mark about her stamina, but that’s there for a few of these runners.
We’ve also got Comfort Zone for Joseph O’Brien, who won narrowly in the Triumph Trial at Cheltenham in January. He got a great ride that day and Scriptwriter in second should have been given that ride. Comfort Zone might be a player but he doesn’t seem to have come on too much since being beaten by Lossiemouth in December.
Verdict:
St Donats has some fine form in France. He won the Prix Cambaceres in November, beating Mctigue, and that’s the race for the best three-year-old’s in France. He won by 11 lengths that day and I’ve already backed him at 12/1 as that price was too big. Even if he doesn’t come over, Paddy’s going non runner money back so we’re all good. He could be top-rated based on his French form – which can be an issue at times – but he looks solid.
Scriptwriter is interesting from an each-way point of view. He could surprise us and I like the way Milton Harris approaches the game. He’s bold and brave and he knows what he’s going after. It’s worth saying that Lossiemouth, Blood Destiny and Gala Marceau are at the top of the betting for a reason, so St Donats and Scriptwriter are value picks.
Cheltenham Tips: Rory Delargy’s 10/1 pick for the Triumph Hurdle non runner no bet
