Shot Boii enjoyed a productive 2022 on slow ground and is not yet fully exposed but today’s quicker conditions present him with a new test. Preference is for CROSSING THE BAR, who wasn’t beaten far in a much more competitive race than this at Haydock two starts ago and was still travelling quite well when unlucky to come to grief last time. El Hageb Rose and Beaufort West are closely matched on their 1-2 over C&D in November but neither can be relied upon heavily.
14:00 – Great Ocean
There should still be more to come from Dom Of Mary, who can better last month’s somewhat underwhelming run at Ludlow if boosted by the refitted cheekpieces here. However, another chance is given to GREAT OCEAN, who only faded out of contention on the run-in on his stable/chase debut in the autumn and may not have been suited by a change of tactics last time. Heritier was placed off today’s mark a fortnight ago and is next on the list.
14:30 – Klitschko
Bumper winner KLITSCHKO is not yet the finished article over hurdles but he settled much better when second in a hood at Newbury last time and is open to considerable further improvement here. Mardoof, who has been placed in two maiden hurdles this winter, is earmarked as the main danger.
15:00 – Lord Baddesley
Progressive front-runner Gloire D’Athon is not opposed lightly as he bids to win for the fourth time in a row but LORD BADDESLEY has a touch of class about him and ought to find this race easier than the competitive Kempton chase in which he made the frame on Boxing Day. Tap Tap Boom and Sheldon also have pretty good claims.

15:30 – Prince Imperial (NAP)
Le Patron ran well in defeat behind Thirtyfourstitches over C&D on his British debut and has plenty of scope to improve past his old rival today but he’s untested on ground quicker than soft. Of greater interest is talented Flat stayer PRINCE IMPERIAL (NAP), who has been placed in two 2m novice hurdles here this winter and ought to be very well suited by today’s longer trip. Kotmask also makes appeal.
16:00 – Well Vicky
Donald McCain doesn’t send many runners to Plumpton and his low-mileage 7yo Teasing Georgia looks interesting but it’s hard to get away from WELL VICKY, who evidently began her handicap career on a very attractive mark and can complete a quick hat-trick. Pump It Up is a speculative option to consider each-way.
