13:30 – PROGRESSIVE

PROGRESSIVE was a fair winner over hurdles for Nicky Henderson and she has left the impression she retains all of her ability in a couple of starts for new connections on her last two starts at Southwell and Chepstow. She was comprehensively beaten by a well-handicapped mare who had returned to form last time, but this looks a little easier, and she is 1 lb lower in the weights. Dan Skelton’s Iorens looks to have more to offer now venturing into handicap company and rates the biggest threat.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

14:00 – ONEUPMANSHIP

ONEUPMANSHIP has been given a chance by the handicapper and his stable has hit form recently, so he could be worth chancing if turned out quickly from his effort at Ffos Las. Love Actually showed a terrific attitude when making a winning chase bow at Taunton so is a solid alternative, while the low-mileage Smoking Pigeon probably has more to offer after winning at Huntingdon on his second chase start.

14:30 – GAME WINNER

A gilt-edged opportunity for GAME WINNER, who shaped well when runner-up to a good prospect on his debut over hurdles and first start for Harry Derham at Exeter on New Year’s Day. That was a much deeper contest than this and Game Winner is entitled to take a step forward from that initial experience. More was clearly expected of Piper Tom on his bumper debut at Huntingdon, so it’s possible he could fare better now sent hurdling over a longer trip.

15:00 – DOG OF WAR

Dan Skelton won this race last year and it might be worth chancing him to repeat the feat with the returning DOG OF WAR. He was a progressive chaser in 2021, winning three of his five starts, and he returns from 16 months off on a potentially lenient mark. Killer Kane, who was successful on this card last year, is down to the same mark as when landing a Sandown listed novice handicap last spring and is feared most ahead of November’s wide-margin course and distance winner Dorking Lad, who has Caoilin Quinn taking a handy 5 lb off.

15:35 – NO NO TANGO

NO NO TANGO showed improved form when runner-up on handicap debut at Huntingdon four weeks ago, running on having been set plenty to do, and, with further progress anticipated, he earns the vote to confirm the promise of that run now with this extra emphasis on stamina sure to be in his favour. Sami Bear threw his chance away when swerving and unseating at Wincanton recently but is clearly still on a workable mark if his antics can be kept in check, while Hardy Boy is also worth a second look in an interesting handicap.

16:10 – QUINTA DO MAR

QUINTA DO MAR was rather disappointing on debut in this sphere at Uttoxeter in October, but this former point winner is well worth another chance given the strength of his hurdles form, and with conditions here very much in his favour. Herbiers is also likely to step up on what he showed first time out over fences but Jay Jay Reilly, who gave it a good shot from the front at Huntingdon, and chasing debutant Name In Lights rate the main dangers.

16:45 – CLASSIC KING

CLASSIC KING made an encouraging debut at Hereford in November when he was the only one who threatened to land a blow coming off the pace, and he is expected to last a little bit longer this time, so he is preferred to Dan Skelton’s newcomer Irlandais, who makes plenty of appeal on pedigree and the mark will likely reveal more. Killarney Mountain also warrants a mention.
