Horse Racing Tips: Matt Chapman’s ITV Racing Saturday selections

A super Saturday smash up on the tellybox and Matt Chapman has two nice-priced fancies in Captain Cattistock (14:03) and Call Me Lord (14:55).

Matt Chapman’s ITV Racing Tips

13:10 Sandown – Twin Power
13:45 Sandown – Frero Banbou
14:03 Musselburgh – Captain Cattistock
14:20 Sandown – Monmiral
14:40 Wetherby – Ballygrifincottage
14:55 Sandown – Call Me Lord
15:05 Leopardstown – Galopin Des Champs
15:16 Musselburgh – Collingham
15:30 Sandown – Laskalin

13:10 Sandown – Twin Power

ITV gets under way here at Sandown Saturday with this novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m4f. Champion Paul Nicholls seems to think it is worth taking on Twinjets with TWIN POWER again having been slammed by that horse at Plumtpon last time and I’m taking the hint. Hopefully there is better to come with Adrian Heskin taking the ride.

13:45 Sandown – Frero Banbou

Now a handicap chase over nearly 2m. FRERO BANBOU is not quite in his best form and he’d really like it to rain hard but he’s going to be hard to keep out of the frame for Charlie Deutsch and Venetia Williams. He’s been dropped 2lb since a third at this track to Xcitations last time.

14:03 Musselburgh – Captain Cattistock

Now a handicap chase over nearly 4m! Very hard to sort out. The ground might not be testing enough for southern raider Truckers Lodge and I’m tempted by the hunter chaser CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK who is not hopelessly rated off 133. Not at his best last time at Cheltenham but before that was a fine third at that track.

14:20 Sandown – Monmiral

The feature Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase over 2m4f. MONMIRAL hasn’t quite come up to scratch so far over fences for a horse who was second to Epatante in the Aintree Hurdle. That said, he’s not been disgraced behind Jonbon and The Real Whacker. I’m not absolutely sure what his ideal trip is, but there’s no doubt he operates at this distance for the champion Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden.

14:40 Wetherby – Ballygrifincottage

There’s one from Wetherby on ITV in this Grade 2 novices’ chase over 3m. Hard to oppose BALLYGRIFINCOTTAGE for jockey Harry and Dan Skelton. Rated 145 and a good winner on chase debut at Haydock, the Albert Bartlett fourth should be too good here. A former point and hunter chase performer so chasing was always going to be his thing.

14:55 Sandown – Call Me Lord

A handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. CALL ME LORD runs this track well and must have an each way chance for 7lb conditional Ben Bromley and Nicky Henderson. My selection was sixth in the same event last year off this mark of 144 but made two crucial errors that day at the second and the second last. A good round will put him right in the mix and he wasn’t totally disgraced at Cheltenham last time after a good runner-up spot at this course.

15:05 Leopardstown – Galopin Des Champs

The fabulous Grade 1 Paddy Power Gold Cup over 3m. As for the winner it will be a major shock if Cheltenham ante-post favourite GALOPIN DES CHAMPS is beaten for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Looked supreme in the John Durkan and although stamina questioned by some is a 3m Grade 1 novice hurdle winner at Punchestown.

15:16 Musselburgh – Collingham

Now a handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. Another tough heat. COLLINGHAM is in fair form although I can’t say he’s well handicapped. What he should do is run a race for Donald McCain and Charlie Maggs who takes off a useful 10lb that might make all the difference. Goes off 121 as he did when second at this track to Nayati, who is back for more, last time. A few quid each way.

15:30 Sandown – Laskalin

A handicap chase this time over 3m and a wide open event. LASKALIN is not thrown in but must have every chance as an each way bet for Venetia Williams and jockey Charlie Deutsch. A few runs ago he was off a mark of 143 and he’s down to 133. That said, he was beaten off this last time at Newbury albeit running a sound race in third to Grumpy Charley. Stamina is no issue and in good shape.

Best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
