BALCO COSTAL was disappointing favourite in novice handicap at Newbury on chase/seasonal debut but won one at Kempton on Boxing Day and did so easily by 9l. That puts him into serious contention in this Grade 1.
14:55 Sandown – Coquelicot (Postdata)
COQUELICOT has good record in blinkers, mostly front-running. Won this term at Ascot and Sandown before her good second to a notable rival at Kempton at Christmas. A rising force in handicaps who enters each-way calculations.

15:05 Leopardstown – The Big Dog (Andrew Bladen)
THE BIG DOG has developed into a high-class staying handicap chaser since his only previous Grade 1 attempt, as a novice hurdler at this meeting in 2019. In the form of his life this season, winning the Munster National and the Troytown and finishing a gallant third under a big burden in the Welsh National. Stepping into the big league now and would probably want more testing going.
15:16 Musselburgh – Lebowski (The Brigadier)
LEBOWSKI won his first two hurdle starts in November 2021 and got back on track when winning a handicap at Wetherby two months ago on his reappearance. This lightly raced 8yo did it readily and could still be ahead of the handicapper now 7lb higher.
