This looks an excellent handicap chase for novices and NOTLONGTILLMAY looks a big player given the impression he has made over fences so far. He made a winning start in this sphere at Wetherby in November and took a big step forward when following up in some style over course and distance last month. Notlongtillmay once again impressed with his jumping, while leaving the impression he has plenty more to offer, and he is expected to brush aside a 10 lb rise. However, Drumbear is feared greatly on the back of his chase debut success at Limerick, while both Halo des Obeaux and Bear Ghylls are probably capable of better than they have so far shown in this sphere.

14:03 – DOYEN BREED
This marathon trip could be just the ticket for DOYEN BREED, who held his own in decent company as a novice last season and he should be all the better following his pipe-opener over hurdles at Doncaster. The eight-year-old has edged down to an attractive mark, too, and gets the nod in an open-looking contest for a yard that has made an excellent start to the year. Slipway is still progressing judged on his latest success at Fontwell and he looks a big threat, while Truckers Lodge and Flower of Scotland are others with appealing claims.
14:35 – HEMLOCK
This doesn’t look the strongest race of its type and it looks a good opportunity for HEMLOCK to open his account in this sphere. He showed fairly useful form when winning a bumper at Perth for his previous yard and has reached a similar level over hurdles, proving at least as good as ever at Navan last time. A similar performance should be good enough to see him come home in front here. Outlaw Peter is fancied to bounce back from his Kempton showing under these less testing conditions and rates second best.

15:16 – GRIVETANA
GRIVETANA had the ground as an excuse when bitterly disappointing at Newbury last time, but her second in the Gerry Feilden there prior to that reads well, and she may prove hard to contain if bouncing back to that level, so she is taken to provide the Paul Nicholls yard with a third win in this race since 2017. Stablemates Nayati and Collingham, first and second in a useful course and distance contest on New Year’s Day, can give the selection most to do ahead of Wetherby scorer Lebowski, who would probably want more testing conditions.

15:48 – Cuban Cigar
CUBAN CIGAR hasn’t won for almost a year, but he is proving very consistent and the form of his latest effort when hitting the frame over course and distance on New Year’s Day has been boosted a couple of times since. That was his first start since undergoing a breathing operation and also fitted with a tongue tie (retained) and he is expected to build on that now contesting a less-competitive race. Smart Lass won this race last year and is also a consistent sort, so could give the owner a one-two finish.
16:20 – MR MULDOON
Dr Richard Newland is in much better form now and MR MULDOON bounced back with a bang back over hurdles off his much-reduced mark at Chepstow last month. He went off a big price but there was no fluke about that performance and remains potentially well treated back over fences, so he makes a fair bit of appeal in veterans’ company for the first time. Didero Vallis was placed in last season’s Kim Muir and wasn’t beaten far in a better race than this at Ludlow last month, so rates a huge threat.
