The Cheltenham Festival 2023 is edging ever closer and, with the off slowly looming in to view, we’ve got jump jockey icon turned tactical guru Ruby Walsh and top pundit Rory Delargy with us every week to hopefully get you more bang for your buck.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

The first race on day three of the 2023 Festival is the Turners Novices’ Chase and the lads have been looking at the ante-post markets to hopefully send you off into the night with a winner. Appreciate It and Mighty Power are neck and neck in the betting odds but can anyone cause an upset and who’s looking good each-way value? Here’s Rory’s verdict.

Rory Delargy: Turners Novices’ Chase

Mighty Potter won the Drinmore in December but I can’t find a horse who’s won that race and gone on to win at Cheltenham. Those Drinmore conditions were testing and he was running into driving rain. I’m finding it hard to be really for or against Mighty Potter after that win.

We’re looking at Irish market dominance here but Stage Star is a solid English runner. He won a Novices’ Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on January 28 and he jumped well. The track isn’t a worry for him but I’m concerned he’s just not up to the level of the others in here. You need to be above a high-140s horse to win the Turners.

I’m keen on Banbridge and I’d really like to see him in the Turners. He should run here as opposed to the Arkle. He’s a horse I like physically and he beat Tommy’s Oscar at the Cheltenham November meeting before finishing third behind Mighty Potter in the Drinmore. The trip will be fine for him and as long as the ground isn’t too heavy, he’s worth looking at.

The Dublin Racing Festival will be crucial in deciding who I back for the Turners. I want to back Banbridge and if that goes to plan, I’ll be siding with him.
