12:50 – Windtothelightening

WINDTOTHELIGHTNING finished runner-up in a point last year and made an encouraging start under Rules when finishing third in a mares’ novice hurdle at Doncaster in November. She would have surely finished closer had she been more fluent at her hurdles in the straight, stumbling on landing at the second-last, and she won’t have to improve much on that effort to come out on top here. Aubis Walk will be a big player if over a fall three weeks ago, while Nell’s Bells has a penalty to shoulder for her Wetherby win but has to command respect.

13:25 – Beat The Edge

BEAT THE EDGE didn’t achieve much over hurdles, but there have been more promising signs since sent over fences, unlucky not to win at Wetherby two starts back when in full control until slithering on landing two from home, and running to a similar level when again finding only one too good at Catterick last time. He is 2 lb higher now but has more to recommend him than most in this field and is just about the most persuasive option. Tom Creen is the obvious threat as he bids to make it three from three over this course and distance.

14:00 – Fruit N Nut

FRUIT N NUT made a pleasing start over hurdles at Bangor in September 2021 and left the impression he was in need of the run on his return from 14 months off at Wetherby in November. He was well supported that day, but didn’t progress as expected at Kempton last time when finishing well held. This represents a drop in class, though, and based on his win in this sphere, he should be up to defying a mark of 120 with Brian Hughes back in the plate. Al Zaraqaan was unable to complete a five-timer four weeks ago but he remains one to be positive about.

14:35 – Arthur’s Quay

ARTHUR’S QUAY took advantage of a reduced mark when opening his account over fences at Catterick over Christmas, seeming to relish a more positive ride, and he followed up with plenty in hand under a penalty at Bangor six days later. He is now another 6 lb higher in the weights, but he hasn’t been with Ben Haslam long, is clearly thriving at present, and is a strong fancy to complete a hat-trick. Nero Rock, who can boast a good course record, is feared most ahead of North Parade.

15:10 – Upagainstit

UPAGAINSTIT has made a promising start over hurdles while leaving the impression he has been brought along with handicaps in mind and he looks very interesting stepping up further in trip. He shaped well in a good race of its type at Kelso two starts back and wasn’t given a hard time on his qualifying run last time. A mark of 105 is fair enough and he remains open to improvement. Socks Off and Basford, who fought out the finish here last time, should be in the mix once more.

15:45 – Myburg

MYBURG made up a lot of late ground to make a winning chase debut over 17 furlongs at this course in April last year and he has largely held his form well since. He went like the best horse at the weights at Catterick last time, relishing the step up in trip but making his effort earlier than ideal. He was around seven lengths clear after jumping two out, but tied up on the run-in, so under a more patient ride he may be ready to resume winning ways. Onestepatatime, who was a winner over course and distance last time, can pose the biggest threat.

16:20 – Bridge Road

A case can be made for a few of these but BRIDGE ROAD still looks handily weighted with the form of his recent Wetherby third working out well so he edges the vote. Russian Virtue is thriving under the tutelage of Rebecca Menzies and rates a big threat, while hat-trick seeking Silkstone and in-form duo Bushmill Boy and Bahtiyar can have a say too.
