This good-quality novice might go to FIRESTREAM, who impressed when winning by 21l on his hurdling debut in November and might have bumped into a very good one when second on his latest outing. I’d Like To Know ran well to a point in a Sandown Grade 2 last month and looks interesting now back in calmer waters and dropped in trip. Churchills Boy and Inneston also look very promising, while Pearly Island is unpenalised for his recent handicap win under 10lb claimer Eddie Edge and adds another dimension.

13:40 – Line of Descent
Unit Sixtyfour got off the mark over fences with an emphatic win at Warwick four weeks ago but has been treated sternly by the handicapper for that and an interesting alternative is LINE OF DESCENT. The bottomweight is not bred for chasing but he bumped into a revitalised opponent when running a big race at Catterick last month and gets another chance off the same mark here. Darebin is nothing like the force of old but he wasn’t disgraced at Sandown last time and will be dangerous in this easier grade if in the right mood today.
14:15 – Alexandra Romanov
Bumper winner Awesome Foursome is open to improvement over hurdles on today’s handicap debut and makes significant appeal but ALEXANDRA ROMANOV certainly doesn’t look harshly treated after a 2lb rise for last month’s C&D win and might be able to follow up. Royal Lake and Concrete King are two others to consider.
14:50 – Coolvalla
Calculations are dominated by COOLVALLA and Juniper who both come here on a four-timer and have been serious improvers. Juniper could be dauntingly well handicapped on the strength of what she did over 3m on good to soft at Wetherby last time but Coolvalla might be the better equipped for a major stamina test, for all that today’s ground is forecast to be good to soft, whereas he’s been winning on soft.
15:25 – In Dor
Our Champ very much sets the standard on British hurdles form but last year’s 140,000euros purchase IN DOR is probably a match for him judged on what he did in France. Hurdling debutant Mullins Bay needs plenty of respect given his pedigree and his top stable but the performances in two bumpers rather dent his appeal.

16:00 – Art Decco (NAP)
En Coeur looked in very good nick when winning under a very well-judged ride from Micheal Nolan at Plumpton four weeks ago and is respected, but low-mileage 7yo ART DECCO (NAP) is the one to beat if judged on his clear second to a next-time-out winner in a much stronger race than this at Uttoxeter two starts ago, and he wasn’t discredited on heavy ground there last time. Twasn’t The Plan is next on the list.
16:35 – Duhallow Tommy
Spitalfield (second choice) and Townhill both displayed significant promise in Ireland last year, while Film D’Action is an interesting newcomer from a stable with an excellent bumper record. However, DUHALLOW TOMMY was placed in what turned out to be a fairly good Haydock bumper last spring and he posted another good effort at Plumpton last month. He might be the answer.
