13:30 Kempton – Annsam

Tile Tapper was a very good second over course and distance last month to Remastered and surely has to be involved again. However, Annsamput in a a very good run at Newbury in the Coral Gold up last time and races from a mark only 1lb higher than when winning a really competitive handicap at Ascot the time before that.

13:50 Warwick – Complete Unknown

This son of Dylan Thomas jumped nicely at Ffos Las on his first chase start. He is bound to come forward from that, and he handles conditions, so his looks a really good race for him.

The Goffer is the danger and the British handicapper has rated him higher than my selection. I’ll stick with Complete Unknown.

14:05 Kempton – Paint The Dream

I am concerned that the likely favourite, Pic D’orhy is not at his best on very soft ground and this race may turn into a stamina test. I’ll opt for Paint the Dream who despite having a great record at a left-handed track like Newbury, has a slight tendency to jump right-handed. He was also placed at Sandown in a Grade One chase on heavy ground this time last year.

14:25 Warwick – Givega

Givega was impressive in bad ground at Lingfield and there is not much on official ratings between all of these principles. This son of Authorised and relative of the mighty Quevega looks a value play.

14:40 Kempton – Cobblers Dream [Each-Way]

I was working at Uttoxeter when Cobblers Dream ran over fences and he did not look a natural over the larger obstacles. He will be much happier back over hurdles and is very good value each-way bet in this contest and he won it last year.

Irish challenger Green Glory could be too good for them though. He handles the ground and won a bumper at last year’s Punchestown Festival, which takes a bit of doing. There is no doubt he is at the right end of the handicap and was a convincing winner at Leopardstown over Christmas.

His price reflects that now though and he’ll be at the head of the market so I’ll stick with the each-way angle for Cobblers Dream in a race where Paddy is paying the first 6 home.

15:00 Warwick – Threeunderthrufive [Each-Way]

Threeunderthrufive won the novice chase on this card last year, showing a liking for the course. He carries top weight but I don’t think it is as strong a contest as it has been in the past.

Irish raider Mr. Incredible represents the all-conquering Willie Mullins yard and has to be respected. He has won on heavy ground in Ireland so will handle the conditions and was well backed when running in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas, but fell early (brought down) in the race so never got to show what he could do.

He has been a little reluctant in the past to put his best foot forward so that just plants a doubt in my mind. Grumpy Charlie did us a favour when winning at Newbury but that was only two weeks after that gruelling contest. Not a Chance won this contest two years ago and now races off a 9lbs lower mark. He has to be of interest each-way.

15:15 Kempton – Zhiguli [Each-Way]

The Gary Moore-trained son of Flemensfirth has run some good races and was a winner at the Lingfield Winter Festival last year on very soft ground. He’ll handle conditions and Zhiguli is a value each-way play in this contest.

15:35 Warwick – Glimpse of Gala

A Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle qualifier for the Cheltenham Festival where only the first four home will qualify for the final.

Glimpse of Gala was a good winner of a mare’s handicap at Kempton on soft ground last time out. This daughter of Passing Glance showed a real liking for conditions that day and despite going up 5lb for that win last time, she can still be really competitive again as the 7lb claimer who won on her at Kempton keeps the ride.

Level Neverending is interesting and needs to win this race to get a hike in the ratings to have any chance of getting into the final field at Cheltenham. Gordon Elliott’s Sire Du Berlais is a previous winner of the Pertemps Final at the Festival but is 11 years old now but usually gives his all in these races.
