Cello looks sure to improve granted this stiffer test of stamina but the 1m3f maiden in which Star Mood, Fox Vision, BALBOA and Come Musica made their debut last month looks the key formline. Star Mood did best on that occasion and is greatly respected but it was hard not to be taken by the run of Balboa and he could take a marked step forward. A combination of fog and the camera angle made his finishing effort hard to pick up on that occasion but his sectionals for each of the last two furlongs were the quickest in the race (his penultimate furlong markedly so) and he was still very green. With Jamie Osborne’s string in their best form for some time, he may reverse placings with his old rivals.
Bawaader and Breguet Boy (second choice) have been running creditably at a modest level of late and enter the reckoning but NO DIGGITY might be the answer. He could well take a big step forward from last month’s return to action and he is fully effective under these conditions. Secret Tryst is risky now upped to 1m but she is down in grade and there could be a bigger run in the offing.
Sandy Paradise and River Wharfe can go well, while at likely bigger prices both Come On John (second choice) and Taskheer can have their case argued. ASDAA (nap) was well on top at the finish here on Wednesday though and he can complete a quick hat-trick.
This looks to rest between the previous winners Chorlton Lane and NAILS MURPHY. Chorlton Lane couldn’t have been more impressive visually at Newcastle and it is not his fault that those in behind have done nothing for the form since. He could well be smart, but Nails Murphy also won well on debut and his form has much greater substance. Sundazed is bred for a bit further but she represents an in-form yard and needs a market check on her debut.
Tyger Bay (second choice) comes here on a roll and needs serious consideration in his bid for a quick hat-trick but this is a weaker race than FIVETHOUSANDTOONE is accustomed to and Andrew Balding’s 5yo may prove up to the task. The waters are muddied by the likes of the unexposed Orazio and Kiwano, however, and the betting should be instructive.
Quite a useful handicap. AUSSIE BANKER and Court Of Session were on the up at the end of 2022 and might be the pair to focus on, with a narrow preference for the former who looked far from all out when scoring quite comfortably at Wolverhampton last month. Aguaplano chased home the selection over C&D in November and is better off at the weights with him now, so he’s also a must for the shortlist.

This looks tricky with several of the runners lurking on dangerous marks if returning to their best. Jacks Profit (second choice) and Oriental Art look set to go well but DRILL TO DREAM ran well over C&D on her penultimate start and may be able to shed her maiden tag at the 14th time of asking.
