13:30 Wincanton – MESSIRE DES OBEAUX
13:50 Sandown – FRERO BANBOU
14:05 Wincanton – ANOTHER CRICK

13:15 Sandown – Certainly Red

A 2m 4f Handicap Chase where this son of Midnight Legend has only had five runs over fences but is now getting the hang of things after a shaky start. Certainly Red has scope off a mark of 127 and represents good each-way value. He drops back in distance after comfortably winning over 3m 1f at Wincanton last time.

13:30 Wincanton – Messire Des Obeaux

An 11-year-old who is making his seasonal debut but he’s good course form and beat Protektorat here in a novice chase. His class should carry him through. Celebre D’Allen is the obvious danger with a liking of flat tracks and with a recent run under his belt when fourth to Ramses De Teillee at Warwick. A good run here would be another pointer to the Pipe runner’s chance in the Veteran Chase at Sandown.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

13:50 Sandown – Frero Banbou

Venetia Williams’ runner put up a very good effort when fourth to Boothill on ground that was not his ideal for him last time. The winner has gone on to a Grade 2 success subsequently so the form has a strong look to it. The more rain the better the chance for Frero Banbou.

14:05 Wincanton – Another crick

Noel Williams’ runner won this race last year and now races off a 3lbs lower mark. He wears blinkers now, loves the ground and has to be a player. He seems to come good at the same time each year and with his course form assured, he ticks all the right boxes for me.

14:25 Sandown – AUTHORISED SPEED

Constitution Hill won this race last year and we all know what is expected of him now as he heads the market for the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle. Authorised Speed was an easy winner at Lingfield on very soft ground on hurdles debut having been the first British trained horse home when fifth in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival to Facile Vega. He made a very bad mistake at the last hurdle when winning at this track last time. If he hadn’t, he would’ve been a wide margin winner.

The value bet in the race is the Evan Williams trained L’Astroboy. He beat Tahmuras in his bumper and is a really nice horse and at the prices is an each-way bet to hit the places at least. Henry de Bromhead sends Arctic Bresil over after he won a maiden hurdle at Cork very easily last time. Authorised Speed sets the standard though and he is the one for me.

15:00 Sandown – SAINT XAVIER

The Richard Hobson-trained Saint Xavier was a good winner at Haydock on soft ground when beating another of today’s opponents Up Helly Aa King and the subsequent Welsh Grand National winner, The Two Amigos. He was only raised 5lb for that success and is a strong traveller in his races and a good jumper. They are two things that you need in a big field around this track.

The obvious danger is the top weight Ramses de Teillee who was a good winner at Warwick last time after a wind operation. Coo Star Sivola will be fitter now after his first run since switching to Venetia Williams’ stable when well beaten in the race Saint Xavier ran in at Haydock. Her other runner, Cheltenham Festival winner, Chambard, was pulled up in that race also and should also be more competitive.

15:15 Wincanton – CHIANTI CLASSICO

It’s hard to look past Kim Bailey’s runner who should supplement two wins at Market Rasen and Chepstow where the second at the Welsh track, Henri the Second, has won since at Sandown.

15:35 Sandown – LIGHTLY SQUEEZE

Lightly Squeeze boasts some good form and will handle conditions as he was a very comfortable winner at Kempton last time for trainer Harry Fry. Four runs back he was third at Ascot to Not So Sleepy and lots of subsequent winners have come from that race, He should love the softer conditions.

Djelo is the obvious danger and his last run at Haydock may have come too quick after a comfortable success at Exeter before that.
