12:45 – TOLLERTON FOREST
This isn’t a strong race by any means and TOLLERTON FOREST very much stands out. She showed improved form upped to a mile when beaten two lengths on nursery debut at Southwell last week, and deservedly opening her account at Wolverhampton on Thursday. This will be a quick enough turn around but makes plenty of appeal in a race of this nature. Speziato hasn’t shown much as yet and it’s still early days and he can pose the biggest threat.

13:15 – PRINCESS NAOMI
PRINCESS NAOMI showed improved form upon entering handicaps last year, winning back-to-back races at Chelmsford and Beverley, and she looks interesting on her return from a short break. She wasn’t beaten far when last seen at Chepstow in August – that form has been franked since – and is expected to relish the return to seven furlongs now. Evolicatt is feared most on the back of her recent Chelmsford success, with Greavsie and Betterment both weighted to have a say, too.
13:45 – ROOFUL
ROOFUL won back-to-back handicaps over course and distance in October and November and had little chance when runner-up to a well-handicapped sort over a mile last time. A wide draw meant she was ridden more patiently on that occasion which didn’t appear to suit, getting going all too late in the day, and she is expected to quickly resume winning ways back down in trip despite another tricky draw. Sense of Security and Dashing Rat are a couple of potential threats.
14:15 – AZTEC EMPIRE
AZTEC EMPIRE cost 210,000 guineas as a yearling and has shaped with promise on his first two starts, bumping into some useful sorts on debut at Sandown in August 2021 and beaten only by a promising newcomer after 15 months off at Southwell in November. He was very strong in the market that day, so it was a little disappointing he wasn’t able to win, but he remains with plenty of potential and sets a good standard on form.
14:45 – GOLDEN SPEECH
GOLDEN SPEECH didn’t look totally straightforward during the summer but a subsequent gelding operation coupled with the application of cheekpieces may help him and he possesses the ability to win a maiden such as this. She bumped into the highly promising Nostrum, who won a Group 3 on his next start, and a reproduction of that effort will see her hard to beat. Stablemate First Sight, who looked in need of the experience on debut, and I’m Too Tired remain capable of better and can offer most resistance.

15:15 – MISTER X
MISTER X has found improvement of late, building on earlier promise when resuming winning ways at Wolverhampton in November and following over the same course and distance last time. He did well to get up late in the day, leaving the impression a stronger pace would have suited better, and he could have more to offer now stepping up to a mile for the first time. Dagmar Run is an unexposed handicap debutant, who needs monitoring in the market, and can pose the biggest threat.
15:45 – MASTER GREY
MASTER GREY has been in good form on the all-weather of late, unsuited by a drop back to a mile and a quarter at Chelmsford last time, and he can get back to winning ways with the return to two miles sure to suit. Henry The Fifth has also been running well of late at this distance and is feared most, ahead of Easy Equation.
