13:15 Sandown – GEMIRANDE
ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap chase over 2m4f. Hard to get away from GEMIRANDE for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. He doesn’t have to make all, but he jumped well when doing so at Southwell last time to see off Our Jet who has scored since. Now he’s up 10lb for that, but having only raced 15 times can still improve and has started at the right end of the handicap.
13:30 Wincanton – CELEBRE D’ALLEN
ITV are also at Wincanton Saturday for this handicap chase over 2m4f. Pretty open stuff. CELEBRE D’ALLEN has a right chance for Philip Hobbs and Tom O’Brien. My hope read really well at Cheltenham last year wghebn behind Coole Cody in the Plate at the Festival and returned with a fair fourth at Warwick in November. The trip of 3m seemed to stretch him on seasonal debut so I think he’s very lucky to be dropped 2lb. Big chance against some iffy rivals.

13:50 Sandown – CORRIGEEN ROCK
A handicap chase over nearly 2m. CORRIGEEN ROCK might be the one for Derek Fox and Lucinda Russell. My selection won well ate Sundown last time when his decent jumping get him right up the front. He’s gone up 9lb for that success but after just nine races surely has more to give.
14:05 Wincanton – NOT AVAILABLE
A handicap chase over nearly 2m. This might be as bit short for NOT AVAILABLE but he has to have some sort of chance for Tom Bellamy and Matt Shepherd. He’s been much higher in the handicap before and was far from disgraced at Newbury last time over this distance. If he can stay in touch he’ll be close at the finish.
14:25 Sandown – AUTHORISED SPEED
Classwise the big race of the day in the Grade 1 Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle over 2m. I’m a huge fan of AUTHORISED SPEED who can score for trainer Gary and jockey Jamie Moore. Authorised Speed might well be a bit special, and Moore’s stable is going well, having banged in winners at 28-1 (Editeur du Gite, Kempton) and 66-1 (Jupiter du Gite, Newbury) over the last week or so. If only Authorised Speed was actually called ‘Authorised Speed du Gite’.
Authorised Speed finished fifth behind Facile Vega in the bumper at Cheltenham last March, which was a pretty good effort, but has really taken to hurdling. He hacked up at Lingfield on jumps debut, and then romped home at Sandown despite a desperate blunder at the final hurdle.
15:00 Sandown – SAINT XAVIER
A veterans’ handicap chase over 3m. SAINT XAVIER is not as old as some of these and must have place claims for the in-form Lilly Pinchin and Richard Hobson. A good winner at Haydock last time – up 5lb – he has been higher in the past and has run well eight-handled in the past.

15:15 Wincanton – CHIANTI CLASSICO
A handicap hurdle over an extended 2m5f. Easy to side with CHIANTI CLASSICO here for Kim Bailey and David Bass. The in form six-year-old is just coming to himself and has impressed at contrasting tracks in Chepstow and Market Rasen. Should stay this trip.
15:35 Sandown – LIGHTLY SQUEEZE
A handicap hurdle over 2m. LIGHTLY SQUEEZE is back towards his highest mark again after re-gaining form last time. That said he might go in again for Bryan Carver and Harry Fry as this track will hold no fears and trip and ground are no issue for an in-form horse.
