13:00 – Mrs Grimley
MRS GRIMLEY stepped up on the form of her hurdling debut when filling the runner-up spot at Southwell last time, running on well to pass the post just a length and a half behind the winner. The first two pulled clear of the rest and a repeat of that effort may well suffice here in what doesn’t look the strongest race. Mrs Grimley comfortably sets the standard on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and is very much the one to beat when you factor in her scope to improve again.

13:30 – Greenrock Abbey
GREENROCK ABBEY justified strong support when making a winning chasing debut at Hereford in November, finding plenty on the run-in to get the verdict by a neck. This will be tougher following a 6 lb rise in the weights, but he is very much the type to go on improving over fences and will hopefully prove equal to the task in his follow-up bid for Kerry Lee.
14:00 – Brulure Noire
BRULURE NOIRE created a positive impression when making a successful chasing debut at this course in November, hitting the front at the last and just needing to be driven out from there to land the spoils by a length and a half. He is still only six and there should be plenty more to come from him, with the return further today promising to play to his strengths. Proven in the mud, he can defy a 3 lb rise in the weights to make it two from two over fences.
14:30 – Tanganyika
TANGANYIKA was in the process of running well when falling two out at Uttoxeter last month, looking like he might have been placed had he stayed on his feet. He’s been given plenty of time to recover and this will be just his fourth start for Venetia Williams, so it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer. He is on a competitive mark and could be worth a chance to open his account on these shores in a race where plenty of his rivals have questions to answer.
15:00 – Spitfire Girl
SPITFIRE GIRL showed improved form when filling the runner-up spot on her handicap debut at Uttoxeter last month, clearly benefiting from the step up in trip as she kept going well to be beaten just a head. She’s had a breathing operation in the interim and the still longer trip today is likely to eke out more improvement. Trainer Jamie Snowden enjoyed a double at Catterick on New Year’s Day and Spitfire Girl is fancied to add to that 2023 tally from a 6 lb higher mark than last time.

15:30 – Dentley De Mee
DENTLEY DE MEE returned from 20 months on the sidelines with a promising debut for Venetia Williams (previously trained by Nick Williams) over this course and distance in November. He passed the post less than a length behind the winner and was perhaps a little unfortunate not to win having been hampered on landing at the second last. He clearly retains plenty of ability and this looks a good opportunity for him to resume winning ways from the same mark.
16:00 – Sole Solution
SOLE SOLUTION looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Bangor a few weeks ago, steadily drawing clear in the final furlong to win by four lengths in ready fashion. He showed signs of inexperience earlier in the race and shaped as if the run would bring him on. A couple of interesting newcomers feature among the opposition in this bumper, but the penalised Sole Solution rates a solid selection to maintain his unbeaten record.
