ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap chase over an extended 2m. A tricky heat. GALLIC GEORDIE scored in this off a mark of 99 last season for this column and even though he’s up to 108 now he might just go in again.
He’s not an easy ride and fell last time, but he definitely has the ability to go well for Robbie Dunne and Sam Drinkwater.
Warwick 13.35 – ONE FER MAMMA
ITV also go to Warwick Saturday for this handicap hurdle over 3m2f. Many of these going up in trip and may have much more to come. A confirmed stayer is ONE FER MAMMA who goes for Ned Fox who takes off 7lb and Matt Sheppard.
Ned could only take off 3lb when this horse last ran fairy well at Haydock and he’s also been dropped 1lb to 106. That means there is an eachway play here.

Newbury 13.50 – WARRANTY
This is a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. Another wide open affair. Some seriously in form horses here like the returning Lady Adare and Blekinsop. Many are up in trip, but a guaranteed stayer is WARRANTY for Caoilin Quinn who takes off 5lb for Gary Moore.
My hope has won his last two starts off 110 and 117 so clearly this is not going to be easy now on 124. But he seems to be improving and the claim helps although connections did claim last time as well. I’ll have a few quid on eachway.
Warwick 14.10 – GWENCILY BERBAS
A veterans’ handicap chase over 3m. GWENCILY BERBAS will plod forever and might get into the frame at least at decent odds for David Pipe and jockey Philip Armson who takes off 3lb. The old boy is down to a mark of 120 having been on 132 less than a year ago. This is a chance to bounce back.

Newbury 14.25 – UNDERSUPERVISION
The Mandarin Handicap Chase over 3m2f. UNDERSUPERVISION hasn’t got anything in hand on the handicap but stays all day which will help for the Twistin-Davies team of jockey Sam and trainer Nigel. The six-year-old should still have some improvement to come and was far from disgraced on comeback at Cheltenham. An eachway chance.
Lingfield 14.40 – MORGAN FAIRY
ITV throw in one race from Lingfield for you with a fillies’ handicap over 1m. A tough call. Tom Marquand is back from Japan and rides MORGAN FAIRY for William Haggas. The filly ran badly last time on grass but prior to that was in great shape on the artificial at Kempton when beaten off a mark of 86. She’s back on that here and has a fine draw. Stays well.
Newbury 15.00 – HERMES ALLEN
A Grade 1 here in the Challow Hurdle over an extended 2m4f. Hard to oppose HERMES ALLEN who is fast improving with wins this term at Stratford and Cheltenham. Trainer Paul Nicholls does really well in this race and often sends a good one. Hermes already has a rating of 142 and that should be good enough under Harry Cobden.
Newbury 15.35 – TEA FOR FREE
Now a limited novices’ handicap chase over an extended 2m6f. Back to a hard race to solve. I’ll stick with the very much in form TEA FOR FREE for Charlie Longsdon and Lilly Pinchin who takes off 3lb. My hope has scored at Huntingdon and Uttoxeter twice on his last three starts going up the handicap from 105 to 131. That’s a steep rise to overcome but stays and jumps so could get into the frame once again at the very least.
