Timeform’s Newbury Tips:

12:10 – GRIVETANA
12:40 – JET POWERED
13:15 – ONLY MONEY
13:50 – BLENKINSOP
14:25 – TALLOW FOR COAL
15:00 – HERMES ALLEN
15:35 – TEA FOR FREE

12:10 – GRIVETANA

GRIVETANA showed improved form and shaped well when filling the runner-up spot over this course and distance last time. She was beaten only two and a half lengths and arguably deserved extra credit having set a sound gallop until being headed approaching the last. Grivetana is down in grade and back against her own sex today, so it looks a good opportunity for her to regain the winning thread from just 1 lb higher in the weights.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

12:40 – JET POWERED

JET POWERED looked something out of the ordinary when making a successful hurdling debut over this course and distance last month, gradually drawing clear from three out to win by 11 lengths in totally dominant fashion. A very exciting prospect, he is open to significant improvement and should be able to defy a penalty to make it two from two on his way to bigger and better things.

13:15 – ONLY MONEY

ONLY MONEY produced another solid effort when finding one too good over this course and distance last time, ultimately proving no match for the winner (beaten 14 lengths) but keeping going well to pull a long way clear of the rest. He is yet to run a bad race this season and certainly showed enough last time to suggest he is still on a workable mark. He can take advantage of a significant drop in grade today to bring up his third success of the campaign.

13:50 – BLENKINSOP

BLENKINSOP was well on top at the finish when completing a quick hat-trick at Exeter earlier this month, hitting the front on landing three out and always doing enough from there to win by two and a quarter lengths. This will be his toughest test yet now up in grade from an 8 lb higher mark, but he remains with potential and is fancied to prove equal to the task for Henry Daly, who has his team in good form with three winners from his last nine runners.

14:25 – TALLOW FOR COAL

TALLOW FOR COAL returned from seven months off with an emphatic success at Lingfield in November, staying on well after leading three out to land the spoils by seven and a half lengths. That was a career-best effort and it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer after just seven starts over fences. He’s already won three of them and another bold bid seems assured today, with the return to further expected to be right up his street.

15:00 – HERMES ALLEN

HERMES ALLEN made it two from two under Rules with an impressive victory in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last time, travelling strongly at the head of affairs before quickening clear in the straight to win by nine lengths. That form sets the standard here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and Hermes Allen is unlikely to have finished improving yet, so he must be considered very much the one to beat for Paul Nicholls, who is seeking his third straight success in this Grade 1.

15:35 – TEA FOR FREE

TEA FOR FREE is now unbeaten in three starts over fences and there was plenty to like about his latest win at Uttoxeter, only winning by a length and a half but looking value for extra having idled on the run-in. He is likely to progress further as a chaser and a 6 lb rise in the weights probably won’t be enough to prevent him from making it four from four in the finale.
