Artistic Choice was a fair sort on the flat if a little bit of a character, but there was nothing wrong with his debut hurdle success at Catterick and he could be the type to be transformed by eight sets of hurdles. Postmark was rated below him on the level so the vote goes to the Paul Nicholls’ trained charge who made a bad mistake at the last on his debut and should have learnt plenty from that experience.

Chepstow 13:05 – Numitor

It goes without saying that if Allmankind is back to his best he would be thrown in on his best form off a rating of 154, but he has twice looked out of sorts o n his last two outings both on the level and in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon so the each-way vote goes to the Heather Main charge who was merely outpaced on ground too quick last time out at Newbury and will appreciate the forecast rain set to all afternoon and is preferred to  Fugitif.

Kempton 13.20 – Boothill

Thunder Rock has impressed on his two starts over fences, but trainer Olly Murphy will be praying that the ground dries out substantially if his charge is to take his chasing record to three from three. On his hurdles form Glory and Fortune would be the pick of these, but on all three starts over the larger obstacles, two at the back end of 2020 and last time out at Cheltenham, his fencing has been dubious to say the least. That leads me to Harry Fry’s runner who lost nothing in defeat to Jonbon last time out and is preferred to Lac De Constance.

Chepstow 13:40 – Perseus Way

The Fairyhouse staying on third of Comfort Zone was given a hearty boost when Lossiemouth hacked up at Leopardstown yesterday and he is probably the right favourite here. Scriptwriter is highly rated by Milton Harris, while Fils de Roi is finally getting the hang of things for Fergal O’Brien. However, I was really taken by the Leicester success of the selection and have upgraded that win as he ran very free through the first mile and he is taken to reverse Cheltenham form with Scriptwriter on this more suitable surface.

Kempton 13.55 – Glimpse Of Gala

The key to the chance of the improving Coquelicot is her getting an uncontested lead and that is unlikely here with Go Chique and Sabrina set to line up at the bottom of the weights. She could still prove too strong off her new mark of 126, but with Get On Tonic possibly in the grip of the handicapper under her welter weight, I expect this likely fast run race to suit the selection who may be able to reverse recent Ascot form with Anthony Honeyball mare as she needs a thorough test of stamina.

Chepstow 14:10 – Just A Dime

I was really impressed by the way that Bobo Mac travelled through the race to win here last time out and he remains very well weighted despite the penalty on his form from two seasons ago. He should be in the mix again, but at the weights I just prefer the claims of the Ben Clarke runner from a stable firing on all cylinders. His light weight may count for plenty of what could be deteriorating ground and the step back up to three miles is another huge plus.

Kempton 14.30 – Edwardstone/Funambule Sivola

It doesn’t take an oracle to tell you that EDWARDSTONE will most probably win this as he has a clear lead in the official ratings and his nearest rival in that respect, Nube Negra, wants a much better surface to run on as does the infuriating Mister Fisher. That makes the Venetia Williams’ trained runner the obvious forecast link in a race which as a betting concern makes no appeal to me.

Chepstow 14:50 – The Big Breakaway/Regina Dracones

This is a Welsh National with a whole lot of difference. Only when Haley’s Comet comes around is the ground softer at Kempton Park than Chepstow at Christmas so it may well be worth looking up into the skies over the next 24 hours! it certainly puts a different perspective on this lung bursting 3m6f+ event although it is worth noting there is light rain forecast from 11am onwards throughout the day.Quick Wave was hugely impressive at Sandown Park in the London National at Sandown Park and has only 4lbs extra to carry here, but this is a totally different kettle of fish and the price has long since gone. I’m not saying she can’t win, but there are several each-way alternatives here that surely offer much better value.

I have the utmost respect for the likes of Munster National and Troytown winner, The Big Dog, the unexposed Ask Me Early and Pats Fancy, but at the weights and prices the selection makes the most appeal. Being such a big gangly, scopey individual, the Tizzard charge was always going to take time to find his game over fences. Over such a long trip, his jumping won’t be put under so much pressure and his second to Fontaine Collonges (hampered early) was a great sign poster for this event. That run should have put an edge on his fitness and this big, robust chaser should have no problem with carrying 11-9.

If the ground remains good to soft Wayfinder should go well, but if we do get plenty of rain then the big outsiders Regina Dracones and Time To Get Up could easily outrun their prices.

Kempton 15.09 – Kittys Light

Fully 10lbs lower than when a never nearer fourth to Five Star getaway last year, the Christian Williams’ trained charge looks hard to keep out of the frame here. In the perfect circumstances he is best served by an extra half mile, but if this thorough stayer can stay in touch turning for home, he is handicapped to go very close here. Of his rivals, Uttoxeter winner Fern Hill and course and distance winner Flegmatik have solid claims, while I strongly expect Smarty Wild to reverse recent Ascot form with Larry on 5lbs better terms at a track where his form figures are 132F.
