Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s best Thursday bets at Ayr
The Timeform crew know what to do on the last day of UK jumps action before the Christmas Festivals and think Return Fire (3pm) can bring up the hat-trick.
BEAT BOX looked a bit rusty when returning from eight months off at Hexham last time, but he still ran well to fill the runner-up spot, doing all his best work late on to pass the post just a length and a quarter behind the winner. He should be sharper here from just a 3 lb higher mark and seems sure to go well again as he tries to repeat his success in this race 12 months ago.
SAILING GRACE made a promising start to her hurdling career when winning at Newton Abbot in October, sticking to her task well on the run-in to win by half a length. The runner-up gave that form a boost when winning his next start at Kempton and there should be more to come from Sailing Grace with that experience under her belt. A couple of interesting newcomers feature among the opposition, but she rates a solid selection to make it two from two under a penalty.
IVAR made an encouraging British debut after nearly a year off when filling the runner-up spot at Bangor a few weeks ago, ultimately proving no match for the improving winner (beaten six lengths) but keeping going well to pull clear of the rest. That form comfortably sets the standard in this line-up and it looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark over hurdles at the fourth attempt.
GOLD EMERY looked a bright prospect when making a successful hurdling debut at Carlisle in February, quickly asserting after the last to win by a length and a quarter. He now makes the switch to handicaps after 10 months off and could be one to follow this season. A BHA mark of 110 certainly looks a fair starting point to life in this sphere, with the longer trip promising to unlock further progress if his background in points is anything to go by.
STEP ABOVE had a bit in hand when making a winning hurdling debut at this course last month, edging ahead in the final 100 yards to land the spoils by a length and a half. This will be tougher under a penalty, but he should improve now up in trip and is fancied to prove equal to the task in what has the makings of an informative novice event.

RETURN FIRE has won his last two starts over fences in good style, first opening his account at Hexham in November and then making the most of a good opportunity from an unchanged mark at Newcastle just six days later. He was well on top at the finish on the last occasion, leading before two out and always doing enough from there to win by four and a half lengths. He is clearly going the right way and an 8 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to stop him in his hat-trick bid.
LISLORAN showed a good attitude when landing a proper gamble over this course and distance a few weeks ago, rallying gamely on the run-in to get the verdict by half a length. He is only 6 lb higher in the weights today and looks one to keep on the right side now that he’s in the winning groove, with further improvement by no means out of the question after just two starts over fences.
