Deere Mark will be a tough nut to crack if able to build upon his Cheltenham form from October but preference is for IDEALDES VILLERETS, who looked quite useful in bumpers last season and bumped into an exciting subsequent winner when second on his hurdling debut. Fancy Stuff is also a key player.
A fascinating maiden hurdle in which Shomen Uchi is a noteworthy newcomer to obstacles. However, this seemingly rests between the likeable Issuing Authority who drew well clear with a determined winner at Uttoxeter, and the Dan Skelton-trained HEEZER GEEZER. The selection bumped into a well-regarded rival at Newbury and sets a stern benchmark for the others to aim towards.
He has fitness to prove after a 249-day absence but NOCTE VOLATUS did very well when switched to chasing last winter and may still have more to offer this season. Galop De Chasse began this campaign with two good efforts and will be feared if he runs here instead of Lingfield. French Listed winner Yes Indeed has a mixed record in Britain but will be dangerous off his current mark if on song.
Grove Road and Mr Vango both come here after winning hurdle debuts, while Inflexible (second choice) ran well in defeat on his hurdling debut. However, PHANTOM GETAWAY still looked full of running in the closing stages when winning a Ffos Las handicap by 7l last month and he looks the one to beat.
Credo looked in excellent nick when slamming FLOWING CADENZA at Chepstow last month and could still have a lot more to offer over fences. She is not opposed with any confidence but Flowing Cadenza was making her seasonal debut that day and, with this just her second run for Venetia Williams, she may make enough progress to give her stable a fourth consecutive win in this quite valuable series final. Lingfield winner White Hart Lady is next on the list.
Some of the main candidates have met previously, namely the smooth-travelling Roger Rarebit and Navegaon Gate in addition to the Exeter rivals ISLE OF ARON (nap) and Gyllen. The selection was a winner over hurdles at Ayr earlier in the year and appeared to relish returning to this discipline last time. Of the remainder, Unspeakable is a potentially interesting handicap debutant.

His tendency to race too freely is a nagging concern but CAP DU MATHAN was one of two that dominated throughout when second on good ground at Wincanton last month and he might well be seen to even better effect on today’s slower ground. Harry Fry’s ex-French 4yo In Excelsis Deo is something of an unknown quantity on today’s British/chase debut and will be feared if strong in the betting.
This bumper looks quite competitive but MAGIC SEVEN created a good impression when drawing nicely clear to win over C&D five weeks ago and might be able to overcome a penalty. The other bumper winner Roger Pol should find this easier than his latest assignment and is second choice but Ballybeg Boss is an interesting recruit from the Irish point scene, while Kruger Park, La Pagerie and Viva Valentina are three newcomers with good credentials.
