12:25 – Tea and Chats

TEA AND CHATS hails from a good jumps family and, while he was unplaced in a couple of starts in Irish points, he made an encouraging start to his career under Rules when runner-up in a novice hurdle over this course and distance last month. Tea And Chats was only collared close home after making the running and he is entitled to improve for that experience.

12:55 – Walk in the Wild

Walk In The Wild didn’t show much over hurdles for Oliver Sherwood but he has proved a different proposition since going chasing with Gary Moore. He sprang a surprise on his chasing debut in a two-and-a-half-mile handicap at Lingfield last month, jumping soundly on his way to an authoritative success, and he defied a 5 lb higher mark in a two-mile handicap back at the same venue last time. WALK IN THE WILD won with more in hand than the two-and-a-half-length margin might suggest – he was closed down when the race was in safe-keeping – and a further 7 lb rise should not be enough to stop him completing the hat-trick.

13:25 – Tequila Blaze

TEQUILA BLAZE was let down by her jumping on her chasing debut at Uttoxeter in October, ultimately falling at the second-last when looking held, but she looks to be on a handy mark on her return to hurdling. She registered an emphatic success at Ascot last season and then posted better efforts in defeat when placed at Kempton and Newbury. She holds solid claims based on those performances and trainer Fergal O’Brien has his string in excellent order.

14:00 – Prince Imperial

PRINCE IMPERIAL was a prolific winner on the Flat – he scored on six occasions – and he reached a useful level, so he’s an interesting recruit to hurdling. He was disappointing on the all-weather at Kempton last time but had previously run up to his best to win a heavy-ground handicap over a mile-and-three-quarters at Nottingham that fully tested stamina. Howlingmadmurdock is also worth noting as he was a comfortable winner on his bumper debut for Anthony Honeyball. He has since joined Tom Lacey and looks a danger.

14:30 – Le Patron

LE PATRON is of interest starting out for Gary Moore as he showed fairly useful form in France, winning at Nancy before producing a better effort when runner-up at Auteuil. The form of that race at Auteuil has started to work out well, and an opening BHA mark could underestimate him. Pilsdon Pen is going the right way and has won three times and finished runner-up twice in five starts since going handicapping, so he is an obvious danger.

15:00 – Poldark Cross

Point winner POLDARK CROSS is still searching for a first success under Rules but he shaped with encouragement on his reappearance at Ffos Las last month until coming down at the second-last. Poldark Cross had largely jumped well to that point, and he had only just been joined when exiting. He showed enough to suggest he’s on a fair mark, particularly if the application of a visor for the first time can bring about a bigger effort.

15:35 – Captain Teague

CAPTAIN TEAGUE was successful on his only start in an Irish point, he’s closely related to the very smart chaser Sky Pirate and he starts out under Rules for champion trainer Paul Nicholls, so he has plenty going for him on paper ahead of his bumper debut. Nicholls has his team in top form at present and Captain Teague holds obvious claims.
