13:30 – Hurricane Helen

Most of these aren’t in form, and while Hurricane Helen isn’t the most reliable, she looks the one to beat given she ran a cracker in a handicap and on her first start for Denis Hogan over a mile at this course last week. She wasn’t ideally placed that day, either, so can be marked up further, and a similar performance should suffice down in class. Aljady will be a threat if she can bounce back from some poor efforts and My Little Tip also merits consideration in a tricky race.

14:05 – Skip James

Skip James showed improved form to open his account at the third time of asking when landing a course-and-distance handicap in October and will remain of interest. He was well supported on that occasion, too, making good headway over a furlong out and staying on strongly in the closing stages. That form looks solid enough and he is interesting under a penalty now in a median auction race. Blue News ran his best race to date when runner-up over course and distance three weeks ago and may provide the biggest danger.

14:40 – Doctor Grace

Doctor Grace has a wide draw to deal with – she’s in stall 16 – but she holds good claims on form based on her runner-up effort in a seven-furlong handicap here a couple of weeks ago. That was Doctor Grace’s best effort yet and the way she stuck to her task suggests she should benefit from this step up to a mile. Shangrilama won a seven-furlong maiden here last week and appeals as the main danger.

15:15 – Oh Cleo

Oh Cleo has made a promising start to her career, finishing fourth on debut at Navan and runner-up here last time, and she makes appeal from a fair-looking mark on her handicap debut. Oh Cleo, who was only collared close home in a seven-furlong maiden here last month, could still have more to offer after only a couple of starts, while the application of blinkers for the first time could also bring about some improvement. Notforalongtime has won a couple of course-and-distance handicaps the last twice and appeals as the main danger in his hat-trick bid.

15:45 – Inflection Point

Inflection Point is on a long losing run and is an unreliable sort – he has the Timeform squiggle – but he’s been given a chance by the handicapper and he took a step back in the right direction when third over this course and distance last week on his first start for John McConnell. Inflection Point was beaten just half a length and a neck in third and a reproduction of that effort would give him a good chance. Un Bacio Ancora found only one too good in a course-and-distance maiden on Friday and she is entitled to respect back in handicap company.

16:15 – Midnight Fire

Midnight Fire had been disappointing when last seen on turf, but, given a seven-week break and with blinkers replacing cheekpieces, he took a step back in the right direction when fifth in a seven-furlong handicap here a couple of weeks ago. Midnight Fire was beaten little more than two lengths on that occasion and has been eased another 1 lb, which means he is now 7 lb below the mark he defied at the Curragh in May. Kuwait Direction was beaten only half a length when runner-up over course and distance last month and appeals as one of the main threats.

16:45 – Riccardi Medici

Riccardi Medici shaped well when a staying-on third over this course and distance in October and he then justified support in a mile-and-a-half handicap here last month. He has a 7 lb higher mark and a drop back in trip to cope with here, but he’s a physically imposing sort who is going the right way and is still unexposed on this surface, so he looks up to the task. Cold Steel is also going the right way and won a mile-and-a-half handicap here last time.

17:15 – Banned

Banned was disappointing at Wolverhampton last time on her handicap debut, but she had previously shown some fairly useful form, including when runner-up in a Ffos Las maiden on her penultimate start. Banned has since left Hughie Morrison and joined Joseph O’Brien and could be worth chancing on her first start for this yard. Engagement Ring, who was a creditable fourth here last week, heads up the dangers.
