12:35 – Mombasa

MOMBASA won both starts in France, including a listed contest at Auteuil in June, and he was subsequently purchased for €250,000 and sent to Philip Hobbs. He is an exciting prospect for owner-rider David Maxwell and he stands out as the one to beat on his British debut.

13:05 – Hipop des Ongrais

HIPOP DES ONGRAIS shaped as if needing the run when down the field on his chasing debut at Lingfield last month and he could be a different proposition with that outing under his belt. Hipop des Ongrais showed only modest form over hurdles, for all he justified good support on his handicap debut at Uttoxeter in January, but is very much a chasing type on looks and remains capable of better in this sphere.

13:35 – Vengeance

VENGEANACE didn’t show much in bumpers but he made a more encouraging start over hurdles when third at Ascot in March on his final start for Tom Lacey. He produced his best effort yet when runner-up in a 2m3f maiden here on his first start for Harry Whittington on his reappearance in October and, while his opening mark isn’t a gift, he remains open to improvement and this does not look like a strong novice handicap. He shapes like he’s worth a crack at this longer trip.

14:05 – Family Business

FAMILY BUSINESS took advantage of a drop in the weights to get back on track in a two-and-a-quarter mile handicap chase here last month, scoring in emphatic fashion. Family Business jumped soundly and impressed with how smoothly he made headway into contention before quickly settling matters, ultimately scooting seven and a half lengths clear. The form of that race has started to work out well and a 6 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop FAMILY BUSINESS going in again.

14:35 – Credrojava

CREDROJAVA, an £80,000 purchase after winning her only start in an Irish point, was well backed on her bumper debut at Aintree in October and she justified that support to score by half a length, always looking like she was holding on. She’s a useful prospect and can make a successful start over hurdles to extend her unbeaten record.

15:05 – Do You Think

DO YOU THINK wasn’t foot-perfect on her chasing debut at Hereford last month but she showed a likeable attitude and saw out the longer trip really well to make a winning start over fences, instantly proving herself a better chaser than hurdler. She has an 8 lb higher mark to deal with here, but she remains unexposed in this sphere and at staying distances, while the second home at Hereford has since won impressively, giving the form a boost.

15:35 – Rays The One

RAYS THE ONE hasn’t won since taking this event 12 months ago, but he took a step back in the right direction when fourth behind Beat The Heat over course and distance last month on his second start for Mark Pattinson (was previously with Gary Moore). He’s been eased 2 lb since that effort and is now 7 lb lower than when successful in this contest last year, so he is worth siding with.
