Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
A drop back in trip might suit BENAUD who was a useful performer on the level and he should have learnt plenty from his hurdle bow a fortnight ago. Hartur D’arc ran a big race on his return but there’s a question over this drop in distance for him so Kansas City Star is probably the main danger having only been narrowly denied on hurdle bow last time. Joyeux Machin and Good Land also warrant respect.
Course specialist Wayfinder jumped well and was a dominant winner in first-time cheekpieces here in October but he’s effectively 10lb higher today and faces much tougher opposition this time. He is opposed with SOUTHFIELD HARVEST, who didn’t jump well at Fontwell last month but remains very unexposed over fences and could be a completely different proposition if he finds some fluency this time. Caribean Boy and Farinet also have possibilities.
Love Envoi has form at up to 2m5f and possibly isn’t crying out for this drop back to a bare 2m but she has a very attractive profile and commands respect. A solid alternative is HOMME PUBLIC, who has a good strike-rate at this distance and looks open to further progress. Hermes Boy, who could well improve for the headgear, is second choice on the punting front. Playful Saint completes the shortlist.
Walking On Air looked a very bright prospect on his hurdle debut at Newbury but he wasn’t the same horse at the National meeting and now has to redeem himself against LANGER DAN. The topweight is hard to fault on his two most recent completions in top 2m4f handicaps and he should have another big run in him back over C&D. Walking On Air deserves the chance to put things right in his first handicap, with Herbiers, who should be brimful of confidence after a recent Newbury win, and Harbour Lake next on the list.
