AUTHORISED SPEED was one of the best around in bumpers last season and he looked an equally good prospect for hurdling when making a successful debut at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago, gradually drawing clear from two out to win hard held by 15 lengths. He’s got scope for plenty of improvement and this looks just an ordinary novice in which he should be capable of defying a penalty before going on to bigger and better things.

WEST BALBOA showed fairly useful form in two starts over hurdles last season, first making a winning debut at Warwick and then producing an even better effort in defeat when last seen filling the runner-up spot in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury. Her subsequent absence suggests she possibly hasn’t been the easiest to train, but it’s highly unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her yet given her unexposed profile. She now makes an early switch to handicaps and an opening BHA mark of 127 could prove lenient.

BRIDGE NORTH shaped encouragingly after seven months off when fifth at Aintree last time, particularly with a view to stepping back up in trip. He was outpaced at the end of the back straight before rallying and making a bit of late headway, ultimately passing the post around eight lengths behind the winner. The return to three miles today will be very much in his favour and a BHA mark of 126 still looks workable judged on the balance of his form.
FANCY A CHANCE TO WIN £/€50K?

JONBON looked potentially out of the top drawer when making a successful chasing debut at Warwick a couple of weeks ago, jumping accurately and drawing clear from the home turn to win by seven lengths in impressive fashion. A smart novice hurdler last season, he is likely to be one of the best in this division this time round and this looks the obvious next step in his education for Nicky Henderson, who last won this race with the great Altior in 2016.

LOVE ENVOI proved a total revelation as she won her first five starts over hurdles last term, culminating with a comfortable victory in the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. She lost her unbeaten record on her final outing at Fairyhouse in April, but that was still a very solid run as she filled the runner-up spot behind one who’d had a much lighter campaign. There could be more to come from her this season and a BHA mark of 139 might not be enough to prevent her from gaining a second course success (previously won a Grade 2 here in February).

SHISHKIN is Timeform’s highest-rated jumps horse in training having proved himself an outstanding chaser when toppling Energumene in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot in January, digging deep to get the verdict by a length. That form comfortably sets the standard in this line-up and it looks a good opportunity for him to get his career back on track if fully recovered from the rare bone condition which ailed him when he was last seen being pulled up in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
15:30 Revels Hill
REVELS HILL proved better than ever after eight months off when second at Ascot last time, shaping with plenty of promise to boot, not least because the trip would have been on the sharp side for him. He was beaten less than four lengths at Ascot and is only 1 lb higher in the weights today. Crucially, the extra emphasis on stamina here will be right up his street and, still relatively lightly raced, he remains a staying chaser to be positive about this season.
