12:15 – GELINO BELLO
An interesting match with both runners well above average and still open to further improvement. GELINO BELLO, a Grade 1 hurdle winner who has the benefit of recent match practice, gets the percentage call but good chasing prospect City Chief may put up a big fight in receipt of 5lb.

12:50 – ISLE OF ARON
A weak handicap which offers ISLE OF ARON a good chance of adding to his Ayr win in May. He didn’t enjoy himself over fences last time but returns to hurdling with very realistic claims against this opposition. Karakoram may be able to follow him home.
13:25 – BLENKINSOP
Although Horn Cape and, in particular, Groom De Cotte are probably capable of better, they will do well to cope with BLENKINSOP (nap), who hasn’t looked back since stepped up in trip and switched to handicap company. He can complete the hat-trick.
14:00 – LALLYGAG
Some nice prospects line up for this novice with the likes of How Will I Know, King Of Lombardy, Pride Rock and Walk On High appealing as horses with bright futures. However, they face a couple of useful types in Grey Dawning and LALLYGAG and narrow preference is for the last-named who looked good when winning here last time and gets a narrow vote. Rocky Hill didn’t run badly on his hurdling debut and may be able to take third spot.

14:35 – REE OKKA
It was perhaps a shade disappointing that REE OKKA was unable to finish the job at Aintree last month but that second still goes down as a very promising seasonal/chase debut, and he ought to have more in the locker. He gets the vote ahead of Galop De Chasse, who won twice last season and looks interesting on this first venture beyond about 2m in Britain. Ede’iffs Elton was giving a bang-in-form rival plenty to think about before falling at Hereford last month, and that form has recently been given a good boost by the runner-up.
15:10 – DON HERBAGER
Alminar returned from a long absence with a win at Ffos Las last month and is respected in his bid to make it 2-2 for Evan Williams. Light Flicker got back in the groove with a close call at Wetherby and is a big player if he can repeat the form but the one that appeals most is DON HERBAGER. Venetia Williams’ four-time chase winner hit a clear personal with his comfortable success over 3m5f at Bangor in February and is open to more progress over marathon trips this season.
15:45 – IMPATIENT
Judged on breeding and other factors, the most interesting contenders are IMPATIENT, Take No Chances, Rivers Corner, Bala Brook and Inthewaterside in that order of preference. The market signals should help to complete the picture.
