13:35 – Inis Oirr
14:07 – Beauport
14:37 – Nemean Lion
15:07 – Up Helly Aa King
15:37 – Djelo

13:05 – Post Chaise

Post Chaise didn’t show much in maidens but, following a four-month break, he proved a different proposition when upped in trip on his handicap debut at Hereford in March, digging deep to win a strong race for the grade that produced four next-time-out winners.

Post Chaise was unable to follow up at Newcastle four weeks later, though he ran to a similar level in second, keeping on well over the longer trip and leaving the impression he’d have preferred an even greater emphasis on stamina. With that in mind he shaped well when third on his reappearance at Kelso earlier this month, when the drop in trip wouldn’t have been in his favour. He remains capable of better, especially now stepping back up in trip.

13:35 –Inis Oirr

Inis Oirr, who finished runner-up on his second start in an Irish point, made an encouraging debut under Rules when third in a two-and-a-half mile maiden at Hexham last month. He shaped like a stayer on that occasion, so this step up in trip to three miles ought to suit and he can raise his game.

14:07 – Beauport

Only three go to post in this novices’ chase but it’s a good-quality contest and they all hold claims. Preference, however, is for Beauport who developed into a smart staying hurdler last season and promises to prove even better over fences judged on his winning chasing debut in the Colin Parker Memorial at Carlisle last month. Beauport jumped soundly at Carlisle and sustained his effort well to prevail, and he’s an exciting prospect in this sphere.

14:37 – Nemean Lion

Nemean Lion was a useful stayer on the Flat for Andre Fabre in 2020 – he finished runner-up in the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay – and he simply shaped as if in need of the run on his return from a two-year absence on his first start for Kerry Lee in a Flat handicap at Doncaster last month. Nemean Lion duly took a big step forward with that outing under his belt, looking a good recruit as he made a successful debut over hurdles at Hereford a couple of weeks ago. Nemean Lion won by nine and a half lengths at Hereford, impressing with how strongly he travelled before powering clear, and he has plenty more to offer in this sphere.

15:07 – Up Helly Aa King

Up Helly Aa King looked about as good as ever when landing a veterans’ chase at Doncaster last season and he ran to a similar level when fourth on his reappearance at Kelso a few weeks ago, holding every chance when stumbling at the last. That was an encouraging return against younger rivals and, back in veterans’ company, he appeals as the most solid option.

15:37 – Djelo

Djelo, a winner on his sole start in France, made an impressive British debut at Exeter last week, barely coming off the bridle as he drew seven and a half lengths clear. That looked like a competitive handicap hurdle at Exeter, but Djelo proved in a league of his own, making a mockery of his opening BHA mark. A 7 lb penalty should not be enough to stop him if in similar form.
