GERARD MENTOR arrives in top form having won three of his last four starts and he had plenty in hand when scoring by 18 lengths under this rider at Ludlow 10 days ago. He was given a confident ride that day and looks especially well treated turned out under a 7 lb penalty in a race which doesn’t look much stronger. Natty Night shaped well on his reappearance and his yard’s good form provides hope he can build on that so he’s feared most ahead of Milton Harris handicap newcomer Ilanz.

APOLOGISE is lightly raced on the Flat but showed improved form to open his account in that sphere on his final start for Andrew Slattery and he looks an interesting recruit to hurdles in what doesn’t look the strongest race of its type. The market will reveal more, but he is preferred to Casi Crudo, who offered something to work on when third on hurdling debut at Ludlow.
13:10 – Chianti Classico
CHIANTI CLASSICO won a bumper at this track around this time last year and he responded well to pressure when making a winning start over hurdles at Chepstow at the end of October. He is likely to develop into a stayer in time, but this trip should be fine for now, and he may have been well placed to defy a penalty. The obvious danger on paper is the Nicky Henderson-trained Park Hill Dancer, who is a half-brother to Song For Someone and won a bumper by 17 lengths in March.
13:40 – Imperial Hurricane
Oliver’s Island is sure to be popular having gone mighty close at Lingfield last week, but his strike rate tempers enthusiasm somewhat, so IMPERIAL HURRICANE is fancied to make a winning return on his handicap debut for the in-form Kim Bailey yard. He showed ability in a trio of starts over hurdles last season and should relish this step up in trip. Ali Star Bert, Having A Barney and Baghdad Central are just a few of the others to consider in a tricky race.

14:10 – Knocknamona
KNOCKNAMONA was presumably just having a pipe-opener on his return over hurdles at Kelso at the beginning of November and he looks attractively weighted back over fences with that run under his belt. He is just 3 lb higher than his last winning mark in this sphere and, though he is rising 12 years old, this doesn’t look a strong race on paper. Onenightintown, Fazayte and Supasunrise all arrive in decent form so must be respected.
14:40 – Future Benefits
FUTURE BENEFITS justified good support in style when opening his account under Rules on chase debut at Newcastle a fortnight ago, showing much improved form right away switched to this sphere. It is no surprise given his background in points and a subsequent 8 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t be enough to prevent him from following up. The main danger looks to be Shanbally Rose, who has shown improved form since returning from four months off and remains fairly treated.
15:10 – Resplendent Grey
Little form to go on, so the market could prove highly informative, but RESPLENDENT GREY hails from the in-form Olly Murphy yard, who do well in this sphere, and this Walk In The Park gelding is fancied to go in at the first time of asking from Donnacha who showed up well when third in a Chepstow bumper on his debut. Newcomers I Am De Chaillac, Undercover Lover and Trip Switch all need factoring in too.
