Paddy’s Pick 5 Tips:

13:55 Newbury – Walking On Air

RUBY WALSH: I thought 132 was a really good mark for WALKING ON AIR. You think how far or how easily he won here beating a horse rated at 122. I thought 132 was pretty lenient for walking on air here.

RORY DELARGY: Nicky Henderson tends to deliver at this meeting and won this race with Champ in 2018. He has a similarly exciting prospect here in the shape of Walking On Air, who looked one to follow when winning on his hurdles bow here in January. He couldn’t cope with Grade 1 company after a break at Aintree, but has been handed a lenient mark and is sure to be ready for this first try in handicap company.

14:30 Newbury – Pikar

RUBY WALSH: Dan Skelton’s PIKAR was raised 2lbs for his win at Chepstow last time in a novice hurdle. A mark of 127 looks fair was a fair mark in this tougher contest. 

15:05 Newbury – Oscar Elite

RORY DELARGY: Oscar Elite is a risky bet here given he’s had problems with breaking blood vessels, but he ran really well despite bleeding when third to Corach Rambler at Cheltenham in March, and is capable of winning with a repeat. He looked like a run in the West Yorkshire Hurdle would bring him on, and good ground will suit him now back chasing.

15:20 Gowran Park – Aodhan May

PK: Ruby and Rory aren’t sure what to back so I’m going for Aodhan May for Charles Byrnes and Pat Byrnes.

15:40 Newbury – Monsieur Lecoq

RUBY WALSH: I want to take a chance on MONSIEUR LECOQ, who I actually tipped in Amarillo Sky’s race, but he didn’t run on the day. The stable’s horses are probably in better form now than they were then. He’s won at Newbury in the past and has had a couple of decent runs at Ascot. I know he is eight years of age, but I think he’s on a mark that he can do himself justice on. I’ll stick with him.
