Newbury 13.20 – KITTY’S LIGHT

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap chase over an extended 2m6f. Kapcorse has done this blog a right favour in this race before and is laid out for it every year but he is high in the weights. KITTY’S LIGHT has been out of form this term but I can’t let him go off huge odds in a race like this without a couple of quid eachway. A mark of 140 is workable and if he returns to form in any way at all he’ll be staying on better than most.

Newcastle 13.35 – MALINELLO

ITV also got to Newcastle Saturday for a limited novices’ handicap chase over near 3m. This is wide open. MALINELLO will be the one if he’s got the ability he had when last seen in 2021. My hope looked promising then but he’s been off since. Ben Pauling is going well and with Luca Morgan taking off 3lb a mark of 124 is very fair if fit.

Newbury 13.55 – WEST BALBOA

Now a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. The Skelton runners don’t usually need a run so I’m chancing WEST BALBOA on just his fourth start. My hope looked promising under Harry when chasing home Stage Star in the Challow at this track last year. That’s a Grade 1 and a mark here of 127 looks very fair to me. Let’s hope Dan does have him spot on.

Newcastle 14.10 – CONSTITUTION HILL

The Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle over 2m. Same words different week! CONSTITUTION HILL has won his three races by nearly 50l and was an outstanding winner of the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival. Of course Epatante inso mug, but quite simply it will be one of the shocks of the jumps season if he gets beat on seasonal debut for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville.

Newbury 14.30 – TEDDY BLUE

The Gery Feilden Premier Handicap Intermediate Hurdle over an extended 2m. A tough race. I don’t have a strong opinion but will support TEDDY BLUE for Gary and Jamie Moore. The youngster is promising and scored easily at very short odds at Fontwell last time. His Grade 2 Kempton form in February is not bad at all and a rating of 129 might be one he can still improve on.

Newbury 15.05 – CORACH RAMBLER

The big betting race of the day in the former Hennessy Handicap Chase over 3m2f. I’m not sure there are many young improvers in here, but there might just me more to come from CORACH RAMBLER for Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox. Ground and distance are no issue, and off a mark 7lb lower my hope was a fantastic winner of the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival. In that race he had the reopposing Gericault Roque and Oscar Elite (bled) behind. Our Power was also back in fifth. Coach Rambler has to be delivered late but he’s got the class for this there is no doubt and will have blown cobwebs away at Carlisle the other day.

Newcastle 15.25 – L’HOMME PRESSE

Now the Rehearsal Handicap Chase over nearly 3m. If L’HOMME PRESSE is a proper Gold Cup horse he should have too much class for this line-up under Charlie Deutsch for Venetia Williams. Another who missed Ascot last wee, my Cheltenham Festival-winning selection will be set a test here by Aye Right but can cruise by late on.

Newbury 15.40 – AMARILLO SKY

A handicap chase over an extended 2m. No value in AMARILLO SKY but he has to be the most likely winner after a fine handicap success at Cheltenham earlier this month. He’s up 4lb for that but should still be hard to stop for Brendan Powell and Joe Tizzard.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
