Cheltenham 13.45 – Edwardstone

ITV Racing Sunday gets under way here with a Grade 2 chase over 2m. Nube Negra was good in this last year and probably has more natural ability than Arkle hero EDWARDSTONE. That said, the latter is pretty bombproof and is so reliable that he is hard to oppose. Even his defeat at Aintree might not have been in any way a disgrace. Goes for Tom Cannon and Alan King.

Fontwell 14.05 – I see you well

ITV also show one race from Fontwell in this Southern National Handicap Chase over an extended 3m3f. I SEE YOU WELL was second in this last year and this is more competitive. That said, he stays strong and had a little pipe opener over an inadequate trip the other day. Place claims at least for Seamus Mullins and Micheal Nolan.

Cheltenham 14.20 – Mighty Thunder

Now a handicap chase over an extended 3m3f. MIGHTY THUNDER appears to have totally gone at the game but is back to a mark of 144 here which he landed the Scottish Grand National off back in the day. It’s impossible to tell whether he has any ability left at all, but a run over hurdles last time should have blown away a few cobwebs. I’ll risk a few quid eachway for Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox.

Cheltenham 14.55 – Severance

This is the big betting race of the day in a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m. SEVERANCE has an eachway chance for Ben Pauling and Kielan Woods. The Aintree runner-up is only a few pounds higher in the weights and is consistent without winning. Has a good racing weight and should give us a run for our money.

Cheltenham 15.30 – Fennor Cross

Finally a Grade 2 novice hurdle over an extended 2m. FENNOR CROSS was not as good as some of these on the Flat but stays well and has experience so is an eachway selection for Simon Torrens and John McConnell. The win last time at Cheltenham was decent enough.
