12:35 – SCRIPTWRITER was good enough to overcome inexperience and make a winning start to his hurdling career at Sedgefield last month, asserting on the run-in to win by two and a quarter lengths. He is sure to improve with that run under his belt and this looks the obvious next step for last year’s winning yard. A useful sort on the Flat when trained by Aidan O’Brien, Scriptwriter is fancied to take the step up in grade in his stride to maintain his unbeaten record over hurdles.

ANIGHTINLAMBOURN had her winning run ended over this course and distance last month, but she shaped like the best horse at the weights. She looked in control between the final two flights (hit a low of 1.11 in-running) before being collared late on, ultimately passing the post half a length behind a horse who was delivered much later in a strongly-run race. She is clearly thriving at present and remains one to be interested in from a 5 lb higher mark.

TOMMY’S OSCAR made a promising start to his chasing career at Carlisle last month, looking an assured jumper and just doing enough late on to get the verdict by a head. He was one of the best British-trained, two-mile hurdlers last term and everything about him suggests he could be even better over fences, an Irish point winner and very much a chaser in demeanour. He can put his experience to good use against the likes of Monmiral and Pentland Hills to make it two from two in this sphere.
14:20 – Stolen Silver
STOLEN SILVER proved better than ever when last seen winning the Silver Trophy here in April, gradually drawing clear after being left in front two out to win by 11 lengths. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 7 lb rise in the weights and he’s gone well fresh in the past having won on last season’s reappearance. Trained by Sam Thomas, who is enjoying a good run of form, Stolen Silver could be worth chancing in a typically competitive renewal of this race.

ON THE BLIND SIDE ended last season totally out of sorts, but he has dropped to a competitive mark judged on the pick of his form, lining up here from a BHA mark of 144 having won this race off 145 back in 2020. He kept some good company last term, producing his only effort of any note when second in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on his reappearance, and it could be that fresh is the best time to catch him. He can capitalise on the drop in grade here to resume winning ways.
15:30 – Unanswered
UNANSWERED stepped up on his previous efforts over hurdles when easily winning a big-field handicap at Punchestown in May, powering clear after the last to win by eight and a half lengths with plenty in hand. This will be much tougher, but the pick of his form on the Flat suggests we’re yet to see the very best of him in this sphere. He represents shrewd connections and must be very interesting at the foot of the weights.
