12:35 – Blueking D’oroux

Blueking D’oroux has very good form against one of the best horses in France, Losange Bleu, who is flying for the Papot family. With Ray Cody’s War Correspondent declared also we should get an early handle handle on the Irish juveniles as he was a good winner at Punchestown last month.

13:10 – Valsheda

The Kelvin Hughes family love to breed their own horses and have done well with the likes of My Drogo in the past. The dam of Valsheda, Candy Creek, was ridden to victory by both AP McCoy and Ruby Walsh in the past and Valsheda was a winner at Ffos Las last time out over three miles and he has been schooling well. William Biddick is a good jockey booking and the pair should go well.

13:45 – Tommy’s Oscar

This is a cracking contest and I really like Tommy’s Oscar. He is the highest rated horse in the field from his hurdling days, but because he is from a small stable he is not the out-right favourite in the early market. He jumped brilliantly when winning at Carlisle in October on his chase debut and the slower the ground, the better his chance.

14:20 – Simply The Betts (each-way)

If Simply The Betts was ridden by Harry Cobden, I have no doubt he would be an awful lot shorter in the betting. However, owner and amateur rider David Maxwell rides him in this valuable contest. He ran really well in the race last year which was his first run back after a long layoff. He then finished a good second to Vienna Court on the new course in January and he is well weighted. He ticks a lot of the right boxes.

Stolen Silver is of interest and his trainer Sam Thomas has his horses in great form. French Dynamite is among the favourites and he won his prep run over hurdles at Thurles last time out. He brings some of the best novice chase form from last season into the race but he does have plenty of weight to carry.

14:55 – Shearer

Shearer was a comfortable winner at this venue last time in a novice hurdle when giving weight away and a winner has come out. Fontana Ellissi for Samuel Drinkwater could be an each-way play for some value.

15:30 – Nickle Back (each-way)

Top weight Nickle Back looks too big a price for me given his form and profile. He’s looks a cracking each-way chance. You could argue that he is a little unlucky not to be unbeaten on the rules as he made a mistake late on at Southwell which cost him. In his point-to-point, he had every chance when falling at the last. I really like this horse.

16:05 – Luccia

Luccia proved to be very smart when running away with a Listed bumper at Sandown earlier this year. She is really good and is highly thought of by Nicky Henderson.

Mick Fitzgerald’s Saturday ITV Tips:

13:10 – Valsheda
13:45 – Tommys Oscar
14:20 – Simply The Betts (each way)

16:05 – Luccia
