Horse Racing tips: Fran Berry’s best bets at Dundalk on Friday night

The Sporting Life's Fran Berry goes through Friday's card at Ireland's all weather track.

16:45 – Las Cuatro
17:15 – Rockys Dream
17:45 – Slieve Binnian
18:15 – Might And Mercy
18:45 – Ceallach
19:15 – Make The Switch
19:45 – Rockview Roman
20:15 – Selador

16:45 – Las Cuatro

Las Cuatro was well backed on her debut run over 5f at this venue at the end of October. She finished well that day and the experience will stand to her as will the step up to 6f. The main dangers look like the top-weight Capital Guarantee and Catherine of Siena, who sets a good standard although she looks a 72 rated filly all day long and there may be more improvement from the selection.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

17:15 – Rockys Dream

James McAuley has three runners in this and expect to see plenty of them over the coming weeks. One that caught my eye is Maritime Rules who makes his Irish debut having previously been trained by Richard Hughes in the UK but may be best watched on his first start for Ger O’Leary.

Hodd’s Girl is two from four runs for Aido McGuinness and has a good profile and with what looks a race with a lot of pace in it, this race and that could suit the ‘closers’. I’ll go with five-time course winner, Rocky’s Dream.

He likes a strong gallop as he’s a hold-up horse and back down to 6f with Joey Sheridan’s 3lb claim should suit him down to the ground.

17:45 – Slieve Binnian

Gavin Cromwell has three runners in this 1m contest where Giselles Romance looks the best of them. The key form however may be the race at Gowran Park where four of these ran. Fendi won that race but hasn’t performed to his best on the all-weather before and I’d sooner take a chance on Slieve Binnian who was seventh that day to Rhythm King.

However, if you go back to the Curragh last August, he probably ran in the best maiden that has been run in Ireland all year with a host of winners coming from it at Listed to Group 2 level. That testing ground on handicap debut was an ok effort over 7f but a mile now on the polytrack over a mile should see him to best effect.

18:15 – Might And Mercy

The 7f apprentice handicap will have the maximum 14 runners and looks wide-open. Hightimeyouwon has switched from Dermot Weld’s to Aido McGuinness’s yard and could be rejuvenated over the next few weeks off a lower handicap rating. Iva Feeling is worth a mention but as this is an apprentice handicap Might And Mercy is ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle and can go very close from a good draw in stall three.

18:45 – Ceallach

I’m on Ceallach in this one. He was a good winner of a maiden at Dundalk back in the summer and his last run behind Golden Twilight was really good too. He was unlucky not to win that day. The best is yet to come from him.

19:15 – Make The Switch

There are a few of interest in here but I’ve landed on Make The Switch for John McConnell with Colin Keane on board. He’s won at Dundalk before and he’s lightly raced on the all-weather track. The booking of Colin is also eye catching.

PICK 5 FRIDAY WINNERS AND 25 GRAND COULD BE YOURS

19:45 – Rockview Roman

Early Strike is of interest after running well on his comeback effort at Dundalk last month but I’m with John McConnell’s Rockview Roman. He won twice here on the all weather back in 2019 and he’s back on the surface that has seen him put in his best performances. He should be hard to beat.

20:15 – Selador

I like Joseph O’Brien’s Selador. She impressed at Sligo in the summer but she didn’t quite follow that up at Dundalk in October. She’s lightly raced and she’s got blinkers on for the first time. She’s moving back up in trip too which should suit.

Fran Berry’s Friday Dundalk Tips:

16:45 – Las Quatro
17:15 – Rockys Dream
17:45 – Slieve Binnian
18:15 – Might And Mercy
18:45 – Ceallach
19:15 – Make The Switch
19:45 – Rockview Roman
20:15 – Selador
