13:10 – ENKI FLACKE

ENKI FLACKE showed much improved form when last seen defying a double penalty in a novice hurdle at Perth in July, staying on well on the run-in to land the spoils by three and a quarter lengths. The way he shaped there suggests stepping back up in trip will be in his favour and the application of first-time cheekpieces could also eke out a bit more improvement. This will be his handicap debut and an opening mark of 122 might not be enough to prevent him from completing the four-timer.

13:45 – GREY DIAMOND

GREY DIAMOND failed to beat a single rival on his final start of last season at Wincanton, but that doesn’t the whole story as he probably would have finished second at worst but for sprawling to the ground and losing all chance at the last. He finished lame but has been given plenty of time to recover since. Trained by Sam Thomas, who has been among the winners recently, Grey Diamond is well worth another chance to prove himself on a good mark.

14:20 – HEREDITARY RULE

HEREDITARY RULE ran out a dominant winner of a handicap hurdle at Downpatrick eight weeks ago, his second win in a row having also won over fences at Cartmel in August. He returns to chasing today having already won three of his six starts in this sphere, proving himself a very fluent jumper. That experience is sure to stand him in good stead and a BHA mark of 137 still looks workable in a race where most of his rivals have questions to answer.

14:55 – BALLYANDY

BALLYANDY shaped as if retaining all his ability after six months off when third at Perth last time, sticking to his task well to pass the post only two and a half lengths behind the winner. He has been prone to mistakes over fences but was largely fluent at Perth. Twice a winner over hurdles last term, Ballyandy is rated much lower in this sphere and this looks a good opportunity for him to gain an eleventh career victory now back down in trip.

15:30 – HUBRISKO

HUBRISKO has shown plenty of ability in four starts over hurdles, putting up his best effort when third in a Grade 3 event at Tipperary last time. Admittedly, he was beaten quite a long way there behind his impressive stablemate Champ Kiely, but that was still a step forward and he probably would have finished closer but for a mistake two out. That form sets the standard in this line-up and his scope for further progress identifies him as very much the one to beat.

16:00 – MASTER DANCER

MASTER DANCER looked a good prospect when making a successful British debut at Stratford last month, hitting the front early in the straight and staying on well from there to win by three lengths. That was a fairly useful effort and he remains one to keep on the right side now making the switch to handicap hurdles. A BHA mark of 118 certainly looks a fair starting point and it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer for his burgeoning yard.
