12:55 – Chasing Fire
The ones with experience don’t set a high standard in this maiden hurdle so CHASING FIRE is expected to build on the excellent impression he made when making a winning debut under Rules in a bumper at Wetherby when last seen in March. He was a £170,000 purchase after winning a point and he looked something out of the ordinary as he beat a next-time-out winner with something to spare, no more than pushed out to score comfortably. Chasing Fire can progress again now switched to hurdles and he is an exciting prospect. It’s taken a bit of time for Sassified to make it back to the track for his debut in this sphere, but he showed fairly useful form on the Flat in Ireland, and could be the one to give the selection most to do.

13:30 – Iorens
Dan Skelton has his team in terrific order and IORENS is expected to give the yard yet another winner. She was successful on her sole start in points and she made a highly-encouraging start under Rules when runner-up to another promising sort in a novices’ hurdle at Carlisle last month without being subject to a hard time. Iorens is sure to progress from that initial experience, perhaps markedly so, and she appears to have been well placed here. Treefinch looks the solid alternative, although Lets Go To Vegas would merit consideration if the market spoke in her favour.
14:05 – Hidden Depths
Plenty are in with a shout in an open handicap hurdle but HIDDEN DEPTHS comes here on the back of a good second on the Flat at Ffos Las and he can build on that now. He won a similar event at Les Landes two starts back and is weighted to go well back in this sphere on that evidence. The returning Happy And Fine also figures on a potentially lenient mark and is feared most with cheekpieces fitted for the first time, although Belvedere Blast, Seinestaional and Betty Baloo need shortlisting, too.
14:40 – Harry Du Berlais
HARRY DU BERLAIS won an Irish point and is closely related to high-class chaser Mr Mole, so it isn’t really a surprise that he left his hurdling form well behind when runner-up on his chase and handicap debut at Bangor on his final start in April. He took a keen hold under a patient ride in a steadily-run race on that occasion, but he jumped well enough, and strikes as the type who has even more to offer in this sphere. Planned Paradise is a danger and Ocean Drifter is worthy of consideration on his first go over fences.
15:15 – Fantastic Lady
Nicky Henderson is in excellent form at present and FANTASTIC LADY can resume her progress on her seasonal return. She won a couple of handicaps over fences on varied ground last season but didn’t get far over the National fences in the Topham on her final start. She remains with potential as a chaser and she has the ability to make her mark at this level back against her own sex. Little River Bay and Precious Island also need factoring into an open contest.

15:45 – Gandhi Maker
GANDHI MAKER shaped like a handicap chase winner-in-waiting at Ayr last time, unable to land a sustained gamble but easily shaping like the best horse at the weights. She was perhaps sent for home too soon on that occasion, but she also wasn’t helped by a mistake at the third last which knocked some of the stuffing out of her, and she looks the one to beat despite being raised 6 lb with his stable going well. Radetzky March will be a threat if primed for his first outing since March, while Sir Apollo is a lightly-raced chaser who likely has his best days ahead of him.
